The facilities will be used for shipping coal brought to the spur from the mines in Salina. The coal will be brought to the site by truck. Smith stated that starting on or about December 1, his company will load coal at the Juab siding, and continue there until the new facility is readied. Facilities to be constructed include a large pad where the trucks from the Salina mines can dump, and an area for loaders to pick up the coal and load the railroad cars. No tipples for gravity loading of the cars is anticipated at the present time. Coastal States Energy Company, with headquarters at Houston, Texas, purchased the Southern Utah Fuel mines at Salina some time ago. Shipments have been made to California via Rio Grande and Union Pacific lines beginning at Thistle. Because of the high freight rates involved, Coastal States decided to load at the Levan site directly to the Union Pacific cars. Smith said that two men will probably be employed at the loading site for the present time.
