Nearly 300 children of employees of NRP, Inc., Nephi industrial rubber products manufacturing plant, received gifts from .Santa Claus Saturday as the annual Christmas party of the company was held at the Juab High School auditorium. The visit from Santa Claus and the presentation of gifts climaxed an afternoon program on Saturday. According to Leland Coburn, chairman of the party, the gifts were personally 15 selected for each youngster according to his or her age. Value of the gifts ranged from $6.00 to $7.50, Mr. Coburn said. The children, plus parents, and older family members nearly filled the auditorium for the program, which was presented by a group of students from Brigham Young University. Following the visits with Santa Calus, families received their gifts in the lower hall of the school building. Services held for Jess Young, 71 Volume 64, Number 51 LDS wards plan Christmas cantatas, programs for Sunday Services were held yesterday at Mona for Jesten Dolphus (Jess) Young, 71, who died Sunday, December 15 at the Juab County Hospital. Mr. Young was born in Mona on September 17, 1902 to Reuben D. and Eleanor Jane Kay Young. He married Joy Sperry on July 27, 1927 in Salt Lake City. Mr. Young was a member of the LDS Church. He was a cattleman and had also worked for Thermoid Rubber company for 13 years. Mr. Young is survived by his wife of Mona; two sons, Richard J., Douglas S. Mona; Mrs. Roy (Eleanor) Bowman, Salt Lake City; and Renee Farrell, Mona; two sisters; Mrs. Marie Strong, Salt Lake City, Mrs. LaVonne Averett, Salt Lake City. Mr. Young left 15 grandchildren and 1 greatgrandchildren. Burial at the Mona City Cemetery was directed by Anderson Funeral Home. Mr. Pexton, James H. to be exact is vice president of Pexton Wholesale Company, Inc., and is the companys computer expert. Following graduation from JHS where he was senior class president, Jim attended and graduated from Brigham Young University at Provo with a BS degree in business management. Following his graduation, he received computer training from IBM, and currently is getting the bugs out of the local companys third computer. Hes at the business early and late, overseeing many of the firms operations. Its not all been strictly business with Jim, either. He has been ultra active in the Juab Sheriffs Patrol, and has served in every office of this organization. Currently, he is vice commander of the State Search and Rescue organization. Under the Patrol service, he received training in SCUBA diving, and has instructed classes for two years in other areas of Utah. He has participated in 12 rescue (recovery) missions as a SCUBA diver throughout the state. He is a licensed pilot, and as such has flown on various rescue and location missions in central and western Utah. He is a member of the Nephi Jaycees, and has served in all local offices, and has been a director of the Nephi Chamber of Commerce for the past two years. He was nominated for state distinguished service award honor of the State Jaycees. Nationally, Mr. Pexton is active with Service Merchandisers of America, and is vice president for the western region. He has been chairman of two national committees of the merchandising organization, and active in national and regional Mrs. Pexton has dedicated her life to her family, and to being a housewife and mother. Her home testifies to the fact that she is an immaculate housekeeper and organizer. She is a graduate of Juab High School, and shortly after graduation, she and Mr. Pexton were married, in 1962. Mrs. Pexton teaches Primary in the Third Ward, and teaches dancing classes two days a week. She stated that she does not have a favorite recipe, but loves to experiment with new dishes, such as casseroles. Family members are Troy, 9, Tausha, 5 and Tiffany, 4. Troy is a student at the Juab District Elementary school in the third grade, and his likes are toward mathematics. As a hobby , Troy loves to build model airplanes, and he has built several three of the type with motors and flying controls. Troy has been taking skiing lessons at Fairview, and is doing real well, his parents say.' Troy is an active Cub scout, and has 100 percent Primary attendance for more than two years. He also is president of the school class this year. Tausha is attending kindergarten, and is enjoying learning to read, especially. She takes dancing lessons, and is a regular attender at the Third Ward Sunday School and Primary. And she has a cat named Tracy. That's not too odd, but Tracy has one blue eye and one green eye, and that is ! Tiffany just turned four years of age, and was the guest at a very nice birthday party. She, too, is taking dancing lessons, and goes to Primary and Sunday School, and like her sister, sports a couple of cute dimples in her cheeks. Tiffany also has a cat, named Tess, and its eyes are green. The family enjoys weekly activities together, and the children sparkled when asked if they particularly enjoyed airplane rides with their father. Jim and Beverlee and children are a fine Nephi family that ou surely should know for it is in knowing them that you will appreciate them much more.! Juab High School will again be among the schools participating in the Sterling Scholars of Central Utah contest, to be held this year in Centerfield on April 8. Last year, Juab produced three runners-u- p in the program, in which students from the various schools of the region compete in high school subject areas. The subject areas are English and Literture, Speech and Drama, Mathematics, Social Science, ! Foreign Language, Art and Art Crafts, Vocational Education, Homemaking, Business Education, Music and General " Scholarship. Students start on the road to the contest by submitting their names to the high school nominating committee, headed by the school principal. The principal will tkae the recommendations of teachers, department heads, and faculty councils and pick the schools nominee for each subject area. Students wishing to submit their names for nomination should do so by February 14. After a student is nominated, he has until March 20 to complete entry forms and submit accomplishment portfolios. At contest time, students are judged on their accomplishments and three winners from each category are presented with cash awards, and are offered scholarships from almost all state schools of higher education. In addition, each participant receives a sterling scholar pin and certificate. Officials of the event say that they have already been offered 25 scholarships for this years contest. Two days left to get Santa Parents have only two more days to make arrangements for Santas special visits on Christmas eve, according to Tony Salisbury, chairman of Christma activities committee of the Nephi Jaycees, sponsoring organization. Mr. Salisbury will take calls until 5 p.m. Saturday. Parents are invited to have at least ten children in their home for Santas special visits. Juab High Schools class of 1974 will host residents of Nephi to the classs Senior Ball, to be held this Friday night, starting at 9:00 p.m. The dance will be held in the boys gym at the high school. The theme of the dance is The Christmas Song. Music for the evening will be furnished by the Wes Barry orchestra. Only four Sarah Molyneux Mona lady to celebrate birth - MONA Mrs. Sarah Molyneux will be honored Sunday, December 23 on her 91st Relatives and birthday anniversary. friends are invited to visit with her during the afternoon at her home in Mona. Mrs. Molyneux was born in Fountain Green on December 23, 1882, to Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Carter. The family moved to Mona in 1889 where she has since made her home. She was married to Willard Molyneux in January of 1907 and they were parents of three children. Weather report LEVAN WEATHER Yule hours announced by P. office Juab County Postmaster James L. Whimpey has announced that the Nephi post office will close at noon on Saturday, December 22, Monday December 24, and Monday, December 31. During some years past, the office has remained open until 5 p.m. on Saturdays just prior to Christmas. There will, however, be full mail delivery each of the dates mentioned above. Mona Wards choir presented cantata on Sunday evening, December 16 to usher in the holiday season, according to Bishop John L. Sperry, and therefore no special program is planned for this Sunday, he stated In the Nephi Fourth Ward, The Light Oer Bethlehem by Louise Stairs will be presented by the ward choir. Viola W. Ockey, choir director, stated that the narration for the cantata was written by Thalia Mickelson, and that it will be read by Cary G. Peterson. Soloists for the presentation will be Isabel Carter, Duane Bracken, Don Royce and Anona Spencer, and a duet selection will be presented by Larry Peterson and Carol Stuart, with special accompaniment by Rhett Peterson. Choir accompanists are Rheta Sperry and Ethe-ly- n Bailey, and Itha Gadd is assistant conductor. The sacrament meeting will begin at 5 p.m. The Night of Miracles is the title of the cantata being presented by the Levan Ward choir Sunday in the Sacrament meeting beginning at 5 p m. Sharee Kenison is choir director, with Fern Wankier as accompanist, and Verl Tanner will be reader for the cantata. Solo presentations will be by Jerry Mangelson and Eudene Anderson. Bishop Heber C. Taylor has extended an invitation for all ward members to attend. Bishop Byron Wilkey of the Nephi First Ward invites all members to attend the ward Sacrament meeting starting at 4:30 when the ward choir will present a cantata. LaRae Kendall will direct the choir, and accompanists will be Donnell Blackham and Emily Jones. Although no cantata will be presented, special Christmas music by the Nephi Third ward choir will be presented Sunday evening. Fern B. Garrett is choir director. In addition to the special music, a Christmas story will be presented by Myrna Trauntvein, and special speaker for the meeting will be Lynn L. Wright, Stake Executive Secretary, who will speak on The Real Meaning of Christmas. The Music of Bethlehem is the title of the cantata being presented in the Nephi Second Ward Sacrament meeting, starting at 6:30 p.m. Robert L. Tolley is director of the choir, with Iris Ferre as accompanist. For the cantata, Leo Osborne is reader, with solos to be given by Diane Brough, Earl Hanson and LouAnn Osborne, and a duet by Ardys and Dwane Tidwell. |
