Ray Burtenshaw, Utah LOGAN State Extension Agent for Cache County, has been named state and regional winner of the Certificate of Merit for best consistent production of an agricultural newspape columnr. Mr. Burtenshaw was formerly agent in Juab County. The award is pat of the National Association of County Agicultural Agents public information awards program, according to Dr. J. Clark Ballard, vice pesident for Extension, USU. Mr. Burtenshaiw previously received commendation inu September 1954, for his outstanding Farmer of the Week series published in the Nephi Times-NewIn 1956 and 1957 the Nephi Tim- - won honor for "Service to Agriculture in national competition. Use of "The County Agens Comer written at that time by Mr. Burtenashw, aided in achieving the national award. Fifteen members joined the Association. Danny Sperry Kent Park Two Named to First-Seco- This devotional will follow the theme "O Holy Night and includes talks from several seminary students. Another feature will be the first performance by the newly organized Seminary Choir. State Honor Team Danny Sperry and Kent Park of the Juab High School Wasps football team 2A First team. placed on the Danny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duane Sperry, was named first team defensive end in the Salt Lake Tribune selection. He also was named to the Deseret News first team. Kent Park was named to the first team of the Deseret News. Kent was one of the few juniors selected to this honor group. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Park. Kim Sperry, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Linton was selected to the second team as quarterback. Juab also had boys who placed on teams: Kerry Yates, son the of Mr. and Mrs. Don Yates of Mona, first team all region, and Brent Park, son of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Park, second team all region. All-Sta- te Teachers and officers of the Seminary anticipate a large turnout and invite all members of Juab Stake to attend. all-sta- te Juab Stake Leadership meeting will be held Saturday evening, December 2nd at 7:30 p.m. at the Juab Stake House. This meeting time was changed because d of the dedication services at the Ward chapel last Sunday. Sacrament meeting, 4:30 p.m. On Fast day, Sunday School classes will end at 11:05. Fast day meeting will be conducted from 11:30 to 12:45. Five Named to Franklin Pa sp Greenhalgh. 67, died at the family home at Nephi early Wednesday following a long illness of cancer. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 pm. at the Want Chapel, with the Nephi Second Ward Bishopric in charge. He married St .e Howard May 27, 1936 at the Manti jt iple of the Church of at Education Classes Schedued to Start In an effort to involve more people in the community education program, the Juab School District is now conducting a survey to determine what classes the townspeople would desire to have taught. Those who have not received a survey sheet may contact the office at the high sohool. Registration for evening classes as listed on the survey sheet will be held on December 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the main office in the high school. Registration fee is $5.00 for each class one may enroll in. Juab and Millard Offices of Selective Service Combined; Special Honor Roll Five students under the cooperative service program have been named to the honor roll released Monday of this week, according to Richard Fairbanks, program director. Mr. Fairbanks noted that this honor program is not designed to be in competition with the students in regular school but gives the cooperative program students an incentive to work harder in their program. Director Fairbanks listed the students on the honor roll as: Kevin Carter, Rodney Higginson, Sherry Major, Linda Olsen and Mitchell Worwood. These students have achieved a 3.5 grade point average. New Office Hours Announced The Selective Service System has announced a change of hours for the Nephi office. The office, located in the Juab County Courthouse, will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 1 to 5 pjm. Monday through Friday. The number of hours the office will be open has been increased because the Nephi office will now also serve as the administrative office for Local Board 14, Millard County registrants, as well as Local Board No. 12 for Juab County registrants. Files and records for each board will be kept separate and operated as separate and distinct local boards. The members of each local board will be retained as at present constituted and each board will hold separate monthly meetings. No Tree Permits to be Issued The Levan Lions Club has announced that the club will sponsor a special Christmas eve Santa Claus visit on Saturday evening, December 23. The affair will be held at the Levan Ward Cultural Hall, starting at 7 p.m. A program, viist by Santa Claus and refreshments are planned. Additional information will be given as the date nears. Mr. Greenhalgh served an LDS mission to the Eastern States 19284930, and served in the presidency of the 71st Quorum of Seventy for 16 years. He was a stake mlssioner, M Men teacher, class leader and secretary of the Adult Aaronic Priesthood program. He also served on the ward genealogical committee. He was a farmer and stockman, and was employed nine years as a custodian at the Nephi Elementary School. He also had been employed as a guard for Bums Detective Agency at the H. K. Porter plant in Nephi, for three years. Survivors are his widow, Sadie H. Greenhalgh of Nephi; and three daughters Mrs. Roy (Glenna) Holt of Laramie, Wyoming; Mrs. Neil (Marilyn) Garrett and Mrs. Gary (Marjoie) Stephenson of Also surviving are 15 grandNephi. children, three brothers and three sisters: J. G. Greenhalgh of Shelly, Idaho; Leland Greenhalgh, Provo and Qarence Greenhalgh, Nephi; Mrs. Mae Welch, Summers, Washington, Mrs. Nina Day of Salt Lake City and Mrs. Ludlle Carter of Nephi. Mike missed top spot by only four points, being three behind the winner, Kevin Green of Pleasant Grove. Mike is son of Mr. and Mrs. James Stephenson of NephL Mike won second place in the Junior Championship Steer Riding finals. He was top contestant at the Ute Stampede held here last July, in the Junior Steer Riding contest. Del-wi- a ,t Taxes Paid as Union Pacific Railroad joined other Juab County citizens in the taxpaying line this week as Roland Dolan, general tax agent from Los Angeles, paid the companys taxes for 1972. Mr. Dolan delivered a check for $110,040.36 to Erma L Goble, Juab County Treasurer. Union Pacific tax payments are being made this week in 16 Utah counties, Mr. Dolan said, and the railroads total property tax bill in the state this year will amount to more than $2 million. The railroads payroll in Utah this year wiU amount to more than $32 million. The Union Pacific check received by Mrs. Goble represented apporximately 16 per cent of the countys total tax income. ad E. Herzberger, Refuge Manager of Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge presented a check for $1,140.15 from the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service to Erma I. Goble, Treasurer of Juab County last week. Hie check was issued, under authority of the Refuge Revenue Sharing Act which entitles the county to three-fourtof one per cent of the appraised value of acquired land, or 25 per cent of the net receipts collected from such reserved public land, wtiichever is greater. Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge is located in Western Juab County, 25 miles east of Callao.
