Bagley of Callao was honored Monday evening at the annual Leadership Appreciation banquet for 15 service. Also honored years of were Dona Jones, 10 years of service, and Susan Garrett with five years of service. The service awards were presented by Reed Christensen, assistant manager of First Security Bank at Nephi, representing the Utah Bankers Association. Lynn Esplin, Juab County Agricultural Agent gave the welcome, with the program proceeding as follows: Jill Mem-mo- tt led the singing, Molly Gardner the 4-- 4-- H to Youth 4-- 4-- H 4-- g. Kenner Funeral Services Held at Mona, Nephi wn Area Men Funeral services were conducted on Monday at the Nephi Third Ward chapel Mr. for Cleon Harrison Kenner, 77. Kenner died Thursday, November 4, at Spanish Fork of a heart attack. . Bishop K. J. Sperry of the Nephi Third Ward conducted the services. Mr. Kenner was bom October 14, 1894 at Mt. Pleasant, to Robert and He married Ann Rasmussen Kenner. Eunice Penrod June 20, 1917 in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Saints. She Jesus Christ of Latter-da-y died May 7, 1918. He married Alvira H. Larkin erf Snowville, Utah December 10, 1925 in the Salt Lake Temple. resident Mr. Kenner was a long-tim- e and farmer at Burraston, Juab County. He retired and moved to Nephi five years ago. He was a member of the Third Quorum of Elders. Surviving are his widow of Nephi; one son and three daughters: Eugene Kenner, Hunt, Idaho; Mrs. Ray (Elaine) Powell, Spanish Fork; Mrs. W. Frank (Rowena) Pew, Nephi and Mrs. Joe (Donna) Shepherd, Midvale. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother and a sister: Harold Kenner of Modesto, California and Mrs. Myrtle Lowder, Rupert, Idaho. Burial at Nephi City Cemetery was directed by Anderson Funeral Home. Team Qualifies for 1972 National Contests Fort Leonard - Army Wood, Mo. K. Linton, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Linton of Nephi, Utah recently completed eight weeks of basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, combat tactics, miliatary courtesy military justice, first aid, and army history and traditions. Marine Second Pensacola, Florida Lieutenant Richard B. Daley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mathew L. Daley and husband of the former Linda Ingram, all ot Utah, has completed Environmental Indoctrination School at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola. In the first phase of flight training he underwent intensive instruction in basic aerodynamics, aviation physiology, engineering and land and sea survival techniques. He now will proceed to the next phase of training under the Naval Aviation program. Upon completion of the course he will be awarded the "Wings of Gold of a Naval Aviator. Ne-ph- i( different Eight teams representing areas of the state competed in a state land competition held in Spring-vil- e last week. The Mt. Nebo Chapter FFA team placed second and they now are qualified to enter national competition to be held in Oklahoma City next spring. Host chapter, Springville, was first place winning team, and Bingham High School was third. The contest was set up with four members competing for each school, and the three high scores counted as the official team score. Tracy Olsen received the second place individual score and Brent Dailey the third place award. Rod Shepherd was the sixth place high individual, and the third member of the team for the local chapter. Mike Baxter, team alternate, had the eighth high score in the contest The Mt Nebo Chapter previously had placed first with the same Springville team at the recent Snow College field day. Word also has been received that the Range Judging team consisting of Mark Greenhalgh, Mark Williams and Gordon Young is the first team from Utah to be selected to represent the state in the National Range Judging contest, also to be held in Oklahoma City next spring. Nephi Area News Briefs Mr. and Mrs. Edwin A. Bailey and Mrs. Paul E Booth of Salt Lake City visited Sunday with their brother in law and sisters: Mr. and Mrs. Clarence H. Warner and Mrs. James H. Eagar. Funeral services for James Robert Stanley, 75, Mona, were conducted at the Mona Ward Chapel Wednesday. Mr. Stanley died at the Payson Hospital on November 5 of natural causes. Bishop Marc E Vest of the Mona Ward conducted the services. Mr. Stanley was bom October 7, 1896 at Nephi, a son of Ruben and Jessie Jekins Jarrett Stanley. He married Jennie Elena Hassel January 8, 1919 at the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. Throughout his lifetime Hr. Stanley was engaged in farming, stockraising, buying and selling of livestock, and for several years managed a riding academy in Salt Lake City. Survivors are his widow, Elena H. Stanley of Mona; sons and daughters: Daryl H. Stanley, Orem; LaMar Stanley, Mona; Thays E. Stanley, Santaquin; Nel-do- n D. Stanley, Provo and Mrs. Don Yates, Mona; a foster (Elizabeth) daughter, Mrs. Clinton (Fern) Gunderson, Salt Lake City. Also surviving are 30 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters and brothers: Mrs. A. G. (Jessie) Wright, McGill, Nevada; Mrs. Joseph (Eleanor) Cox, Mrs. Earl (Sara) White, both of California; Mrs. Richard (Florence) Clark; Mrs. Lawrence (Marie) White, Salt Lake City; Edgar E. Juab Students to Paricipate In Region Seven Dance The 1971 Region Seven dance will be held at North Sanpete high school on November 12. Music will be by Pale Horse. Dancing will begin at 9 p.m., with admission prices $1.50 for couples and $1.00 stag. Three couples from Juab will participate in a dance contest, and Miss Suzanne Shaw, First attendant to Miss Juab, will be candidate from Juab for the region queen honors. All Juab high sschool students are invited to attend. The Juab High School, in cooperation with the Juab High School Parent-TeacheAssociation, will Instigate a new system of conducting parent-teache- r conferences on Wednesday, November 17. The parent-teachconferences will be conducted from 1 to 4 p.m., and from 6 to 9 p.m. A film on community schools will be shown at Intervals during the afternoon and evening. During this time parents can meet with teachers, counselorsor administrate ors on a basis. No appointment will be necessary. All teachers will be located in the main building so that parents will not have to move all over the campus. Parents will be able to confer with individual teachers whenever the teacher is not in conference with another parent. The conferences are set up to facilitate com- - munication concerning student academic progress, health and emotional problems, behavioral difficulties if they exist, and other problems. The counselor's office will be open to discuss students progress toward graduation, post high school opportunities, financial aids, etc. The principals office also will be open for parents wishing to discuss school The school and policyand curriculum. PTA officers encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity. In conjunction with the conference, the school library and language arts departments are sponsoring a book fair. Books of all types and description will be displayed. School will be dismissed Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. to facilitate the conference arrangements. John E. Taylor John Edwin Taylor, 48, son of Mrs. Joel Taylor of Nephi, died at Madison, Tennessee Tuesday, November 9 of natural causes. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday prior to the services. Mr. Taylor was bom at Nephi June 4, 1923, the son of Joel T. and Jessie He married Lois Van Leuven Taylor. Halverson July 15, 1944 in Salt Lake City. He was a member of the Church Saints. of Jesus Christ of Latter-da-y A graduate of Utah State University at Logan, he had been employed by the Corps of Engineers in Nashville, Tennessee for 18 years. Survivors are his widow of Madison; one son and two daughters: James Taylor and Mrs. Reese (Mary Ann) Stein, both of Salt Lake City; and Miss Gail Taylor, Madison, Tennessee. Also surviving are his mother of Nephi; two brothers and a sister: Dr. Carl Taylor, Barstow, California; Burton Taylor, Logan, and Mrs. E M. (Ora) Liston, Salt Lake City. Burial at City Cemetery will be directed by Anderson Funeral Home. Mis Pwesit-Ieiclli- ei' one-to-on- Mrs. Kendall was bom March 23, 1885 Nephi, a daughter of Samuel Gregory and Suzannah Cooper Wilkey. She was married to Edward Fred Kendall June 20, 1906 at the Manti Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. He died January 23, 1937. Mrs. Kendall lived in Nephi the major part of her life, with the exception of the period from 1944 to 1958 when she resided in Salt Lake City. Active in the LDS Church, she had served as Primary teacher and Relief Society visiting She was a teacher, and work leader. charter member and served as captain of the Salt Creek Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Survivors are sons and daughters: Mrs. Rex L. (Gladys) Tolley and Dee C. Kendall, both of Nephi; F. Guarnett Mrs. Gordon S. (Grace) Kendall and Johnson, both of Provo; Mrs. Frank D. .(Florence) Reiter, Sandy and Fred Kendall, Bountiful. Also surviving are 29 51 great grandchildren grandchildren, and two great great grandchilden; brothers, sister John H. Wilkey, Edward L. Wilkey, Clarence L. Wilkey and Mrs. Clarence (Kate) Ingram, all of Nephi. Burial will be at the Nephi City Cemetery. Book Fair Being Held at Juab High School Library Juab High School is sponsoring a student book fair November 15 to 19. Students will be able to browse and purchase books. The book fair will be open during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library also will be open Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Juab High library, in conjunction with the English department is sponsoring the event, with Mr. Gibbons serving as book fair chairman. Leon Ames, veteran Hollywood actor, recalls experiences during filming of the wildlife movie Toklat which will be featured at the Venice Theatre in Nephi Saturday afternoon and evening: I was held spellbound by this picture. When I was asked to star in it, the idea of a picture about the grizzly bear was very intriguing in itself, but it became more pleasurable when I realized what an impact the film could have on several of our vanishing wildlife species. On Monday evening they attended dinner at the Athenian Restaurant, and a reception hosted by Governor and Mrs. Calvin Rampton at the Town House Athletic Club. Capfain Gadd Visits Nephi Area; On Leave from Germany Captain Galen N. Gadd spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Gadd and with Jim Gadd and Carol G. Kingsolver and two sons of Provo. While in Nephi he also visited with friends and was a dinner guest at the home of Dr.- and Mrs. Nelson L. Jones. Dr. Gadd has been stationed in Germany with the U. S. Army for the past two years and was on leave for personal business in the State.s He left Nephi Sunday night for Seattle and returned Wednesday to duty in Stuttgart, Germany. He will complete his three year tour of duty next September. His wife. Kathy, and two children remained in Germany. A family dinner was held in Galens honor at the Gadd home Sunday after which the family accompanied him to the Salt Lake airport - Wendell Fowler, representative ot the Small Business Administration, will be at the First Security Bank in Nephi today (Thursday) from 1 to 2 p.m. where he may be contacted by any interested individuals. |
