Family members report that Miss Ingram suffered bruises, but that there are no broken bones. David Lunt, Nephi City Police Officer, who investigated the accident, stated that the lady was crossing the highway from east to west accompanied by Mrs. Mayme Salisbury, when she was struck by a motorcycle driven by Larry K. Harmon, 29, also of Nephi. Officer Lunt stated that the cycle was practically stopped at the time of the impact, and that the machine came to a complete stop while still in the pedestrian lane. The cycle was southbound, at the time of the accident, Officer Lunt stated. Gates Ordered to Sell Nephi Plant Gates Rubber Company, with headquarters at Denver, Colorado, has been given a year to divest itself of the it as a Nephi Plant, and to competitive entity in the rubber-producmanufacturing field. The directive was under terms of a consent order provisionally accepted by the Federal Trade Commission late last week. The Nephi plant was established in 1947 as the Thermoid Company, and has been a vital part of the Central Utah economic force since that time. With upwards of 300 employees, the plant ts Yuba Park Road Rebuilding Planned Juab County Commissioners have nounced the signing of a contartc with the engineering firm of Rollins, Brown & Gunnell of Provo to prepare plans and specifications for the complete rebuilding of the Yuba State Boating Park road. This climaxes over two years of negotiations with the State Department of Highways to have the road placed on the Federal Secondary System. This means that upon approval of an application for funding, the Federal government will pay approximately 75 per cent of the cost of the road. An application for federal funding has been made and approved, and it is hoped that by next spring the project will be completed. He received the degree in commencement exercises held at Monterey on June 18, 1971. A graduate of Juab High School and of the University of Utah, Lt Commander Gowers will serve as operations officer and Navigator aboard the U.S.S. Dace, with homeport at New London, Connecticut following a leave which he is spending at Nephi. He holds the Naval Unit Commendation medal which he received whcile serving aboard the USS Swordfish. He entered Naval Service on June 5, 1961, following his graduation from the University of Utah. Lt. Commander Gowers Is a member of Sigma Pi Sigma, and the American Association of Physics Teachers. Senior Otizens News Events On Wednesday, June 16, 102 members of the Senior Citizens of Eureka and Nephi met at the City Park for a smorgasbord dinner. A musical program was presented with selections from both groups. Eureka Senior Citizens delighted the group with several numbers by a band, with wash boards, spoons, garbage containers, etc, as instruments. On Saturday, June 19, 23 members of the Senior Citizens enjoyed a tour of Fairview. They visited the museum and other points of interest, then all attended the 60th wedding anniversary open house honoring Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gardner, where a lovely luncheon was served, and a special program presented. Mrs. Dellls Painter was asked by the honored couple to sing for them, and she responded with two numbers. Their daughter, who has been visiting with her grandparents for two weeks, returned home with them. was acquired by H. K. Gates acquired the Nephi plant from Porter Companys Thermoid Division and assumed operation and ownership on April 1, 1970. The FTC filed complaint in August of 1970. The complaint charged the manufacture of tubes and hoses for automotive replacement use has been dominated with Gates holding more than half of the market The complaint also points out that substantial competition has been eliminated as a result of the acquisition of the Nephi plant by Gates. The order requires that the plant be divested to an independent party approved by the commission and that it be resorted as a going business and a viable competitive entity in the markets for rubber belting and rubber hosing. To this end, the plant is to be sold including substantially all assets acquir- -' ed and all subsequent additions and imFurthermore, Gates must provements. help the purchaser in retaining, rehiring and replacing the management and sales personnel formerly involved in operating the Nephi plant before the acquisition. The order also provides for a period of five years during which Gates may not itself employ any management or sales personnel who worked for the Nephi plant during the year. Special Meetings Called for Sunday HERE'S TIME-TABL- E FOR 1971 UTE STAMPEDE Interest and activity is growing day by day for the annual Ute Stampede to be held here July 8, 9 and 19. Sales of reserved seats has been going on for some time, and according to Ike Lunt the requests are on the average with other years. With the new stands ready for the big event, it is expected that the overflow crowd will be virtually eliminated on the final two nights of the annual event. Time-tabl- e for the three day affair has been announced by Maurice Tolley, president, as follows: Daily, starting at about 2 p.m., western type music on Nephis main street Parade, Thursday at 6:30 p.m., featuring the colorful riding clubs of the several communities of Central Utah. Thursday at 8 p.m., opening rodeo at the Juab County Fairgrounds arena. Friday, 4 p.m., Mammoth Ute Stampede parade. Entries are invited by the Nephi Lions Club, parade sponsor. Friday, 8 p.m., second Ute Stampede Rodeo at the Fairgrounds. Saturday, 4 p.m. Bathing beauty parade, followined at 8 p.m. by the final Ute Stampede rodeo performance of the year at the Fairgrounds arena. More than 200 visitors are expected for the annual Blackhawk Encampment which this year will be held at Nephi, with headquarters at the Nephi City Park, according to A. E. Motes and family attended funeral services atTempe, Arizona on Wednesday, June 16 for his mother, Mrs. Ernest (Zelpha K.) Motes. Mrs. Motes died on June 12 after a long illness. Mrs. Motes is survived by five daughters and four sons, 27 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Burial was at Safford, Arizona. Local boys and girls in grades 9 through 12 interested in High School Rodeo are invited to be at a meeting on June 24, at 8 p.m. at the Nephi City Hall. Hisforical Society Officers To Speak at Nephi Meeting The public is invited to attend a lecture on preservation of State Historical landmarks, to be presented by the Utah Historical Society on Wednesday, June 30 at 8 p.m. at the Whitmore mansion. According to Ronald Richardson, the president and vice president of the Society will be present. A representation of all clubs, city council, and others interested are invited to hear this lecture. Musical numbers were given throughout the evening by Iris Tolley, and readings were given by Juanita Goble. Nephi Nurse Attending Special Heart Schooling SALT LAKE CITY Annette H. Kendall, L. P. N. of the Juab County Hospital is in Salt Lake City attending a intensive course in special coronary care. Sponsored by the Intermountain Regional Medical Program (IRMP), this intensive training program for Licensed Practical Nurses is unique to the intermountain area. It is designed to give the LPN the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to function as a member of the medical team in a coronary care unit The LPN works under the direction of a Registered Nurse who has already received specialized training. Olsen Installed as Mr. and Mrs. Bent R. Bryan were in Salt Lake City on Monday, June 14 to attend memorial services for Charles Mac Pyke, husband of Jeanne Forrest Pyke. Mr. Pyke was killed in a recent airplane accident Mr. and Mrs. James H. Crane and daughter Sharon, Marilyn and Karen of Salt Lake City visited on Saturday with their parents: Mr. and Mrs. Ed. P. Cox and Mr. and Mrs. H. C Crane. Final preparations are completed for the annual Roadshows in Juab Stake, to First-Secon- Announcement has been made by the Juab Stake Presidency that Priesthood Leadership meeting will be held on Sunday, June 27, starting at 2 p.m. at the Juab Stake House. The Blackhawk Encampment is a statewide gathering of the sons and daughters of Utah pioneers and Indian war veterans. Although the programs of the encampment will not begin until Tuesday morning, most of the nearly 100 trailers and campers will be in place Monday afternoon and evening. According to Mr. Bowles, the encampment has been held annually for most of this century.
