SCOUTS plant willows at recent camporee In Levan canyon Scouts Conservation Project Aid to Irrigation The Juab District held their Scout annual Boy Spring at the Chicken Camporee Creek Campground April 19 20. The Forest Service, according to District Ranger Harold E. Laird, cooperated with the Boy Scouts in a conservation project designed to stabilize the banks along Chicken Creek. Several years ago, the Boy Scouts planted Multiflora rose plans, Squawbush and willows In the head of Chicken Creek. This work has aided considerably in stabilizing the upper portion of the stream. During the camporee, the streambank below the Chickwas en Creek Campground planted with willows. The Boy Scouts eagerly planted of a mile of stream bank In an effort to reduce Sediment in irrigation from the banks causing damage to trout habit and Irrigation structures in Levan. By successfully stabilizing these banks, survival of trout will be the rule rather than the exception. Sediment Ir irrigation ditches In the Levan vicinity will be reduced and water quality will be Improved, This project Is within the Levan Cattle Allotment area, The permittees have cooperated In keeping the cattle away from the creek bottom as much as possible. The normal flood source at the head of Chicken Creek has been revegetated by the Forest Service. Erosion and flooding have been reduced In this area but precious top soli will continue to be lost until the banks have been stabilized with vegetation. A stable Btream channel with adequate cover of shrubs and other vegetation will bring this problem under control and will enhance esthet- lc value for all forest travelers. I Mr. and Mrs. William J.
