New Laird, Forest Ranger. campground facilities will make enjoyment of Salt Creek Canyon an even greater source of pride and beauty for local residents. Ranger laird pointed out that this campground is under the Land-Wate- r Conservation fund act which requires users to have either a group reservation or entrance by displaying a Golden Passport ticket Signs, black top, new tables, grills and fire places as well as leveling of the site have been completed. The small grills which are adjacent to the tables are de signed mainly for charcoal. It would be advisable to take charcoal along if plans are to use these grills, Mr. Laird pointed out. One item which has not been completed, will be done this spring, is the installation of wiring and lighting facilities for each of the units. This will require the forest users to bring a generator, if lights are desired, Mr. Laird stated. Ranger Laird stated that the improvement work and all the effort which has been expended BYU To Host NCAA Meet In Mid June by the editor Eliminate the time between the idea and the act, and your dreams will become realities. reg What this country needs . is a period of a couple or three weeks of good old growin weather so the farmers could really get all the good out of the moisture that we've been getting. Word is that the cooler weather is doing fine for the wheat crop, caused it to stool out rather than grow upwards. If the warm weather could just give it a boost upwards, the wheat farmers wouldnt have must to worry about! reg I sort a got panned . . . why havent you been writing a col- umn . . and what happened to your editorials? . etc etc etc. The scene was a motel at Bijou, California, along about 1:45 to 2:00 a.m. last Saturday morning, and my critic was the number one son! Longfellow Provo College track and field, which has been gaining momentum since its start several months ago, will reach gigantic climax in Provo mid-Jun- e at the NCAA finals at BYU stadium. Brigham Young University, a team that placed second in the national meet last year in Bloomington, Ind., will host meet beginning the three-da- y June 15. An estimated 400 athletes from 150 colleges and universities will be participating in the meet. This is the biggest thing of its kind in sports this year, said Floyd Millet, Cougar director of athletics who is chairman of the games committee. There hasnt been a greater field of track and field stars in the college ranks in the history of the NCAA," he continued, Ill be very much surprised if some records national and world arent broken before the meet is over. Although the Cougars are sporting one of their better teams, they may have to be ranked among the also-rawhen confronted with some of the track powers coming to Provo for the meet. UCLA, the defending champion, is ranked as the team to beat, although Oregon walked off with the AAUW title last week and must .therefore, be listed as the chief contender. Another perennial track power, USC also figures in the running along with San Jose ns now Kendall (Sherwood) Jack and Rulon and deceased) Brough and Bill Tho were also is missed.
