Red tape and strings attached by using government money. Your golf association, after careful investigation, can see none except that any profit, and kid yourself not, there will be some, must be put back into other recreation. I can see the profit from our bolf course building a new lighted baseball diamond or putting a much needed roof on our swimming pool for year round use. Dream on you say then consider Spanish Fork golf course can take in over $800.00 to $900.00 in a single week end. St. George reports over 70.000 rounds its first year. At $1.25 per round, thats $87,-50- 0 00 the first year. Can Nephi do this, you ask? Consider that besides the 6,000 or 7,000 in this area, we have another 15,000 people in Sanpete County waiting and eager to play a closer course than Provo or Richfield. Many of these people I have talked to personally and they ask me why Nephi is so slow? Think of the shopping potential these Sanpete golfers afford our business houses. If I were a Nephi store owner, wholesaler or city father I would be on the GOLF BANDWAGON whole heatedly! Yes, Nephi needs a golf course. It isnt can we afford a golf course but how can we i' fford to be without one? ALAN OSTLER Signed April 2, 1967 Dear REG: Yes, Nephi needs a golf course, not for the exercise it will give its people. Sure, many of our off workers, our store keepers, yes even our factory workers need the exercise that golf provides. But most of us play golf for the sheer pleasure it provides. and enjoyment Nothing in this world is more satisfying than a well hit drive flying straight and beautiful up the middle of a fairway two hundred and twenty-fiv-e yards away. Northing more frustrating than a well planned seven iron shot dribbling a few yards along the grass in front of you. No sport today offers the clean competition and satisfaction of accomplishment that golf does. The chance to relax in clean fresh air and the chance to completely forget the worries and care of our hurried, troubled lives can be satisfied in no better way than through golf. No better way than a beautiful truly challenging golf course can be found to sell a town to passing tourists, salesmen and neighboring shoppers. This fact is well brought out in the advertisements and brochures of reg towns with a course of their own.
