CUU, Medicine and drug expenses for taxpayers 65 years and older will be fully deductible on this years Federal income tax returns. The full deductibility of these expenses under the 1964 Revenue Act was pointed out today by Roland V. Wise, District Director of Internal Revenue. He said this will save elderly taxpayers about $10 million a year in taxes. Under previous law, expenses for medicines and drugs were included in medical expenses to the extent they exceeded one per cent of adjusted gross income. Elimination of the one per cent floor or limitation applies to the medicine and drug expenses of a taxpayer and his spouse if either is age 65 or over. It also applies to such medicine and drug expenses for expenses paid on behalf of dependent parents age 65 or over. There are no other changes the deductibility of medical exin the provisions regarding the of medical exdeductibility Mr. Wise said. These penses expenses are fully deductible, subject to certain maximum limitations, for taxpayers 65 and over, but are subject to a three per cent floor for taxpayers under 65. Chapman Year Voice in Government G. Douglas Taylor Slavery was prohibited In the territory. Illinois was part of the Indiana Territory until 1809, when the Illinois Territory was formed. Settlers poured into the land with farm equipment and domestic animals. Statehood was granted Illinois on December 3, 1818. For a time there was almost no Indian difficulty, but in 1832, the Blackhawk war broke out and was ended only after the Indians were starved out. The peace powwow was held in Chicago, a small settlement of 200 people, in 1833. That same Father Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet with five voyagers navigated the Illinois River in 1673 and were enthusiastic about the resources of the land and the friendliness of the Kaskas-ke- a Indians, near Starved Rock. Marquette returned to the land in 1674 and founded a mission near Utica. In the century following Marquettes death in 1675, French missionaries converted Indians. French traders and trappers monopolized the fur. industry and the British incited the Indians to massacre which finally led to the French and Indian War. The result was Frances loss of the territory. The British flag was raised at Fort Chartres on October 10, 1765. The United States took over the land after George Rogers Clarks victory at Vincennes and the passage of the Ordinance of 1787, which made the Northwest Territory federal property.
