His common, pinched little face was transformed, his mouth slipped open, . and an unsuspected front tooth ap peared. He was breathing quickly and beads of moisture forced their way out on his forehead. In his eyes there shone the great greed. "Gawd!" he exclaimed. "My Gawd!" He passed his fingers over the gems, picked up the necklace and heid it, . spread It upon the table again, caressed it, smoothed two of the larger stones with yellow stained fingers. Perhaps the best thine to do is to wash the blankets ryourself and to remember that very hot water or very cold water is to be iora. avoided. Wash only one blanket at a time this is a good rule, whether you wash them in a washing machine or in a bathtub, as one "llghthousekeeplng" friend of mine does with very good results. Use plenty of good soap or soap chips, but do not use it directly on the blanket. Dissolve the chips or soap in scalding water and then add this to the water in which the blanket is to be washed. Prepare the water before putting in the blanket and make sure that it is only moderately warm. You may use borax in the proportions of two large tablespoons to a tub of water but this should first be dissolved in boiling water and then mixed with the soapy water In the tub or washer. If the washer is to be used, start It going as noon as the blanket is put in and keep it going for 20 minutes. Some authorities say that a blanket should not be run through a wringer, but If the rollers are loosened slightly and the blanket is run through in even folds carefully I find that no harm is done. Each blanket should then be rinsed thoroughly in two baths of clesr water lukewarm. It should then be dried in the open or an airy place Indoors but never in direct sunlight A good plan Is to arrange two lines of clothes rope running parallel and then to hang it up so that it is in a horixontal position. This prevents the water from running down to one end or side. If you do not use a washing machine let the blankets soak for five minutes in the soapy water and then wash by. sozxllng and squeezing through the hands rubbing as little as possible. For places where this treatment is not enough apply a little soap in boiling water and then, letting cool slightly, squeeze this in and out of the blanket with the hands until clean. (Copyright. The woodsy camps, the sea and the forests and the sky are new experiences for them and they have to have them if they are to be well rounded children. Country children need camps for the other reason. They need to associate with a group of stranger children so as to learn to meet many kinds of people and to get along well with them. Oetttng along well with them aneans that, they give the stranger the best side of themselves and get that Quality from the stranger In return. That little! exchange is what makes the world go round in smiling; peace. I am heartily for summer camps. But there are camps and camps.
