Eagle Project a great service to school Dear Editor: One of the needs that has come up this year at Monticello Elemencollectary School is the need to replace and enhance our library book tion. The School Community Council discussed the issue and came up with an idea that there are probably a lot of books in the community that are not doing any good on a home shelf and could be donated to the school. Jessie Barton understood our situation and came up with a plan worthy of an Eagle Scout. He put together a book drive. It was a lot of work and required organization and leadership skills to successfully implement the book drive. On February 5, Jessie and a number of volunteers spread out all over Monticello to distribute information about the book drive. They invited people to donate books to the library or, if wanted, to donate money to replace old books that are falling apart due to heavy use. Mrs. Keyes, MES librarian, worked with Jessie to determine the greatest needs. Every household received a letter and envelope with directions to pick up donations, or drop their donation off at the school. Jessie and his volunteers again spread out to pick up donations on February 12. When the dust cleared, Jessies project had raised more than $850 and more than 1,000 books for the school. We greatly appreciate Jessie for his thoughtful project and hope everyone understands the great service he provided. These books will benefit many children as we strive to provide reading opportunities. The money will help replace books that are old and worn. We will also dedicate some funds toward adding new books of high interest. Thank you, Jessie. Lance Hatch (MES Principal) Dont waste San Juan County Dear Editor: To my mind any importation of toxic waste to San Juan County degrades the county. It doesn't matter the source or the type - be it chemicals, asbestos, or radiological. Each degrades the land, contaminates the water and causes sickness for its citizens. To my mind any politician who votes for such importation of toxic wastes to San Juan County disqualifies himself to hold public office and public trust. Jim Ostler, Bluff Need Your Car Washed? The people here are great, and regret having We wrant to give 2 To have a sample copy sent to a friend, send us his or her address Write to PO Box 879, Monticello, UT 84535. this community provides an awesome place to raise families. We feel the hospital here is wonderful. After using facilities in a city versus Monticello, there is definitely no comparison!! We feel that Dr. Fisher and his staff are professional, friendly, and are our friends. I was nervous to have a baby where we know most of the nursing staff and personnel. My fears were quickly put aside as I realized I didnt have to worry. They made me feel comfortable in an uncomfortable situation by their professionalism, friendliness and doing their job. In the city, you would be treated more like a number. The doctors would come in, not hardly talk to you, do their job and walk out. We had to ask questions to have the doctors talk to us. Here, on the other hand, the hospital staff sits down, takes the time, and asks how the family is. This means tons!! We appreciate this. You who complain about this hospital and the services do not know what you have here so close to home. If we could, we would come back for medical services here, but that, of course, would not be feasible living so far away. As for Monticello businesses; we feel your services are also professional. We found more products here than we could find at Walmart or Target. We were surprised at the variety of goods that are offered in such a small town. We also appreciate the fact that you close on Sunday. We wish more communities would follow suit and do the same. We will definitely miss our awesome neighborhood, friends and raising our family in Monticello. This has been an experience we would never trade for the world. Thank you once again for allowing us to be a part of your lives and little world here in Monticello.
