Show Volleyball honors fall on heels of sucessful season After a highly successful high school volleyball season, girls from local high schools received a host of awards when All-sta- te teams were recently announced. The San Juan Broncos won their second 2A state volleyball title in a row and their lead- ers, Cheyna Shumway and Shalie Flannery, each received Most Valuable Player honors for the second year in a row. Shumway, setter for the Lady Broncos, was named the Deseret News Most Valuable Player, following up an MVP performance as a junior. In Shumway was named to the Salt Lake Tribune First Team Similarly, Flannery was named the Salt Lake Tribune addition, All-stat- e. MVP, following a similar MVP award in her junior year. In their first week the Bucks tallied 47 wins and 26 losses. The Buckaroo team was dominant in their wins, getting 40 by pin and 2 by technical fall. The fastest pins on the weekend were earned by Kalob Butler: 14 seconds, Krieg Adair: 16 seconds and Aaron Butler: 21 seconds. With a great mix of seasoned and young wrestlers it should shape up to be an exciting season for wrestling fans. This weekend the Bucks travel to the Bloomfield Tournament. Krieg Adair rounds out the first place finishers, winning all seven of his matches by pin and only allowing one opponent to score against him. Freshman Aaron Butler earned a second place finish. Butler started off his season with a loss but didn't let it stop him as he pinned his next five opponents and finished off another with a 16-- technical fall. Third place awards went to Jon Stocks, and Kalob Butler who each went 2 at the tourButler-earneney. Musselman finished with four pins and Eldredge with 3 points wins and a tech4-- 3 nical fall. In the opening week Eldredge dominated the 145 pound weight class at the Carbon Duals Tournament. Wade record on earned a perfect his way to a first place finish and earned the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the lower weights. Eldredge seemed to breeze through the tournament winning all seven matches by fall. In addition he won five in the first period, two in the second period and only allowed two points to be scored against him the entire tournament. Eldredge is a Sophomore and coaches expect him to have a great year. As a freshman he finished second in the Utah State Tournament. Wade is the son of Todd and Sherry Eldredge. 7-- 0 |
