Show Page 10 - THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday, July 28, 1999 Births Fishing report LA SAL MOUNTAINS: Blue Lake has offered excellent fishing for rainbow trout with artificial flies. A few brook trout up to 12 inches are also being taken. The lake was restocked after the July 4 holiday. Dark Canyon Lake: The lake was stocked for the first time this year on June 8, again on July 9 and was restocked before Pioneer Day. Dons Lake has been very good for rainbow trout with Captain America Powerbait or flies. It was stocked on June 8. Hid- den Lake fishing has been good for rainbow trout with bait or lures. It was stocked for the third time this year on July 8. Kens Lake: Fishing has been fair for rainbow trout with bait or lures. The lake was last stocked on June 1. Medicine Lake was stocked on June 8. Oowah Lake: A week ago, Melissa Trammel reported fast and furious action for stocked rainbows from 5 p.m. until dark on a variety of small artificial flies. She hooked a number of wild brook trout, ranging from 6-1- 0 bass will not readily eat anchovies. Fish with surface lures earlyin the mornings to maximize striped bass catch. The hot spot is the upper San Juan from Piute Farms to Spencers Camp where boils will be seen every morning and then sporadically through the day. Resting schools can be caught on spoons, jigs and anchovies if located on electronics. Boils may happen in the back of any canyon. Keep a variety of lures available to react to any striped bass opportunity that develops.
