Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD; Wednesday July 30, 1997 - Page 12 Cemetery fund raising efforts gain momentum Contributions are beginning to mount in a fund raising effort to secure land on Cemetery Hill in Bluff. With more than $35,000 secured, fund raisers are nearing the $44,000 goal to purchase six acres of land near the historic cemetery. The Southwest Heritage Foundation is leading the fund raising efforts, which were greatly helped by a matching grant from the Foundation. If $44,000 can be raised, the Eccles Foundation will match the amount to secure the Ec-cl- $88,000 purchase price. Donors include: Clemma Arthur Gene Foushee Skip Lange, L. Val Jones Merle J. The drawing, which was scheduled for July 24, has been postponed until the San Juan County Fair to increase ticket revenues. The drawing will take place at the closing festivities of the fair on August 16. In the meantime, raffle tickets can be purchased from any member of the San Juan County Historical Commission, Parley Redd True Value in Blanding, K&C Trading Post in Bluff, and other locations in the county. The quilt is a magnificent collectors item, patterned after the traditional design of the Navajo wedding basket. It was created by the Four Corners Quilters (Blanding praised, the quilts commercial value is estimated at several thousand dollars. Raffle tickets are $5 each or chapter of the Utah Quilters Guild), based on a design by Florida quilter Sara Ann McLennand, inspired by a basket in her grandparents $10 for three. All receipts go to the Southwest Heritage Foundation to help in the ef- Michigan cabin. The fabric was donated by Parley Redd Mercantile.
