Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday Februaiy 24, 1993- - Page 2 Opinion Spring snow is two edged sword; a messing and a very real danger All of the moisture we have received this year (almost 300 of normal at last report) is a blessing after so many years of depleting the water reserves, but there is also a down side to it. Getting into the fields this year may become a problem for some area farmers and ranchers. They have to get in and prepare the fields in order to plant and have the crops ready ... but with all the mud ...??? And the recreationalists may have to fend off more than avalanches. Some may consider taking collapsable kayaks as they hike or bike in the area this spring ... flooding is a very real potential. Even some of the homeowners in low lying areas should prepare with sand and bags before the rush on such items brings them into the scarce category. We have already had a bountiful year of moisture, we dont need it to be followed by a tragic year of unnecessary damage and loss of life from NOT being prepared for the worst ... for if you prepare for the worst you will never be Legislative disappointed, just well prepared. And the double edged sword of a terrific water Update year wont have to cut too much ... if only we can by Sen.
