Show by Sheila Sakizzie A very creative PTA at Monticello Elementary started a Writing Challenge that has produced a large crop of creative sto- ries. Each month since November a large, attractive display has been set up by volunteer Sue Anderson to let the students know the months theme and to spark ideas for writing. Januarys display featured four arrows asking, Is this Willie? and pointing to a three-dimension- robot, a al flower, a dog, and a boy, to introduce the final theme, Named Him Willie. Upper grade students have helped out by taking dictation for youngsters with more ideas than writing skills. Students, staff, and visitors have enjoyed reading the results. Each time students accepted the challenge by writing and submitting a story their names were entered for a drawing. PTA funds provided several frisbees and two cassette players as prizes. On February 1 the names Patterson and Bucky Brandt were chosen as winners of the cassette players, but they werent the only winners in the Writof Wally j Richard (Richy) L. Black has accepted a call to serve in the Sacramento, California Mission for the Jesus Saints. Christ of Latter-da- y He is the son of the late Gordon James Black and Roberta B. King, of Monticello, the grandson of the late Mae H. Black, of Blanding. Richard was student body vice president and honor student of the 1992 Monticello graduating class. His missionary farewell will be February 14th at 8:30 a.m. in the Monticello First Ward. Elder Black will enter the Missionary Training Center in Provo on March 3, 1993.
