Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday June 19, 1991 - Page 4 Open house at Monticello Museum The Monticello Museum Board invites the public to an open house at the museum on Thursday, June 27, from 7 until 9 p.m. The museum is located in the basement of the San Juan County Library on Main Street. Those who have not visited the museum for a while will find some changes. Several of the exhibits have been rearranged, and there are new signs describing some of the displays. Among the exhibits are telephones from early Monticello, antique clothing, items from Home of Truth, and Anasazi sandals, pottery and stone tools. There also are items from Mexico and Australia, and an ex- - Dead horse point Dead Horse Point State Park continues to have a banner visitation year. Visitation in May was up 26 percent from May of 1990. Last month, Dead Horse Point hosted 19,712 visitors, compared to 15, 617 in May of 1990. For the year to date, 50,911 people have visited the park, a 26 percent increase from hibit of dolls from around the world. The Museum Board recently received assistance in staffing the museum from interns at the Four Corners School of Outdoor Education. The interns are Emily Gonzalez of Monticello, and Bob Chalfant and Brian Chase, both students at Prescott College in Aritributed to acquaint tourists with the museum. Three new banners are going up on street light poles to advertise the museum, courtesy of the San Juan County Economic Develop- ment Council and the Monticello City Development Board. Everyone is welcome at the open house, but if you cant come, you are cordially invited to visit during regular museum hours: 2 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. USPS eligibility register now open This is an excellent time to visit Dead Horse Point State Park. The spring wildflowers are in full bloom and the weather has been relatively cool. The parks visitor center is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. There are ranger conducted programs each night at 8:30 The Blanding Area Eligibility Register (AER) for clerk-carrier- s for the United States Postal Service opened Monday, June 17, and will be open until Friday, June 21, for Blanding and Monticello post offices. Interested applicants may sign up for this clerk-carriarea register only until June 21. Applications will only be accepted at the Blanding and Monticello post offices and at the Main Post Office, Personnel Office, 1760 West 2100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Post Office officials anticipate approximately two openings will be filled in the next two years from this p.m. register. the 40,463 visitors during the same period in 1990. Camping at the park has also shown a large increase. So far this year, 5,109 people have stayed overnight at Dead Horse Point, an 11 percent increase from the 4,593 campers during the same period in 1990.
