The blow-ou- t they enjoyed most was the one they delivered to the Whitehorse girls on Thursday in Monticello. The game actually was decided before the first half concluded. The Bucks shot 50 percent and got balanced scoring from their starting five. With L. Livingstons 17 points, Adams and Coleman each chipping in 8 peTiod. In the period the Broncos hit their first 4 shots, s by including two Singer. The Bucks, on the other hand, hit only 2 of their first 10 Bronco girls head for region three-pointer- points, Scherick with 7 points, and Skouson getting 4 points, the Bucks led 7 at the half. In the second half the battle was carried on mostly by the two JV teams as Monticello won 62 to 34. The blow-ou- t the Bucks out to be a least turned enjoyed nightmare. The Bucks ended their regular season by losing to the San Broncos 62 to 37 in Monticello on Saturday night. This game also was pretty much decided in the first half. Actually, more like the first 45-1- shots. Three minutes into the game disaster struck the Bucks when Livingston went down with a knee injury. Two game-endin- The State 1A Wrestling Meet was held this past weekend, February 2 and 3, at College of Eastern Utah in Price, where the Bucks placed five individual wrestlers and placed fourth as a team. Wayne claimed the title in "what was the closest contest in years. Wayne was followed by Piute, Duchesne, Monticello, Milford, Altamont, East Carbon, Monument Valley, Enterprize, and "Whitehorse to fill out the top ten. Monticello High School was able to qualify 9 wrestlers for the state meet: 103 Matt Rowley; 125 Brandon Good-win- e; 130 Toby Crittenden; 135 Micah Ewart; 145 Jeff Morten-sen- ; 152 Jason Jackson; 171 Ben Semadeni; 189 Mike Semadeni; and heavyweight Randy Hoggard. All season long the Bucks were able to depend on six experienced wrestlers to place at every tournament. It was these same six who scored points for the Bucks at the state meet. Five of these six were fortunate enough to place: Seniors Mike Semadeni, second, 189; Toby Crittenden, second, 130; and Jason Jack-sosecond, 152; junior Micah Ewart, first, 130; and sophomore Ben Semadeni, third, 171. However, it was unfortunate that last years third place finisher Brandon Goodwine n, did not place in this years tournament. Bucks Matt Rowley 103, Jeff Mortensen 145, and Randy Hoggard heavy- weight wrestled hard and represented MHS well but were also unable to place. It was a good year for the Buck wrestling team. It definitely was not easy. There were fewer participants than any year in the last 20 years (only 15) and more dual meet losses. What set this years team apart was the inner strength of the kids. Most were young and very inexperienced which made it tough on them ,in competition. . In a total of 18 matches were won the entire year. That is an average of less than 3 wins per weight. The coach was not always patient either! Yet these young men stuck to the task and completed the season in grand style. They were there every day right until the end ready to give whatever they could to the cause. The coaching staff greatly appreciates the effort of these young men.
