Regional history fair competition will be held March 12 at Monticello High School. The students have been laboring over their research projects since November, and finished frosting the cake last week. By the time the research papers are entered, each one will have been revised numerous times, explained Janet Wilcox, English teacher at SJHS. The students were asked to conduct at least one oral interview and to use local history in the paper. Some of the topics used are archaeology, electrical development, early drama and theater, architecture, the uranium and oil industry, sports, medicine, and aviation. Many of the students did original research, starting from ground zero. There was virtually no secondary information on the local topics. Their research will be valuable to future historians, Wilcox said. Many students donated transcripts of their interviews, along with the tapes, to the county historical commission. I believe we have at least a dozen papers this year that are potential state winners, Wilcox emphasized. They are well researched and have strong emphasis on science and technology. Even the ones that do not incorporate the theme so readily are well The students researched. worked hard. Faith Assembly of God 406 W.
