Funeral services were held in the Blanding LDS South Chapel on Saturday, December 19, 1987, with interment in the Blanding City Cemetery. 81, of Blanding, died December 23, 1987, at the San Juan Hospital in Monticello, Utah. He was bom on February 28,1906 in an adobe home near the San Juan River at Jewett Card of thanks (now Waterflow) New Mexico. He was one of the early uranium miners in San Juan County and started mining vanadium in the 1930s. Previous to this he was a trapper and became familiar with the rock formations of the county. Throughout his life he was an active member in the LDS Church, serving in many callings including three stake missions. His high personal standards have served as an excellent example to his posterity, which now numbers 107. At age 21, he married Mary Lake in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mary Lake died after giving birth to two sons; Grant of Phoenix Arizona, and DeVan of McClean, Virginia. At age 27 he married Mable Carroll in the Salt Lake Temple. Their children include Kay of Blanding, Rex of Idaho Falls, Dean of Oklahoma City (deceased two weeks before his father), Mary Lee Nylor of Grants ville, Merrill D., How- ard, and Carol Ruth Reed of Salt Lake City. Other living relatives are his brother, J. Glen of Blanding and two sisters, Ruth Robinson and Bessie Jordan of California. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held Monday, December 28 and he was buried in the Blanding cemetery. Verda Black and family MARION BLACK Marion Black, age 79, passed away December 14, 1987, at the Four Comers Regional Care Center in Blanding. He was bom January 16, 1908, in Colonia Juarez, Mexico to John Martin Black and Sylvia Evans. He married Verda Brown October 23, 1931, in the Salt Lake Temple of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. He was a scoutmaster for several years, served a year as a missionary to the Lamanites in Chilchinbeto holding Sunday meetings, and a two-yea- r mission to the Manti Temple and many other church posy itions. He is survived by his wife; daughters Klea (Mrs. Roy) Johnson of Blanding, Elaine (Mrs. Jeffery) Ferguson of Midvale, Utah; sons Gerald Marion of St. George; Bruce A of San Diego, California; Max John of Monticello; Clisbee Jay of Blanding, and Raymond Morley of LaVerkin, Utah. Also survived by a sister, Ethel (Mrs. Harold) Cluff of Monroe, Utah and brothers Loren and Harold of Farmington, New Mexico, ANN C. KEMNER Ann C. Kemner passed away on December 8, 1987, after a brief illness with cancer, at the San Juan Hospital in Monticello. Ann resided with her husband Don and previously lived in Montezuma Creek since 1959. She has been active in the local Lions Clubs. Survivors include her hus- band Don, five children, grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one sister and six brothers. Services were held at San Juan Mortuary and at the graveside. Interment was in the Blanding Cemetery on December 12, 1987. He was bom in Blanding, Utah, on January 4, 1937, to J. Frank and Dora Wright. He graduated from San Juan High School and from Utah State University in Logan, where he met his wife, Sandra Fletcher. Willard was employed with the U. S. Civil Service and lived in Germany for several years prior to moving to Virginia. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished carpenter and builder. He was active in the LDS Church, and served as branch president, bishop, counselor in the stake presidency, and patriarch, to list just a few.
