National Guard Career Day May 17 Blanding and Monticello will be the settings for a Utah National Guard Career Day on May 17 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sergeant Mark Peters invites residents in both communities to view displays and see heavy equipment in operation. There will be demonstrations of field artillery, lie detectors and other gear used by an engineering battalion. In Blanding displays will be set up at 200 East Center. The Monticello location has not yet been determined. There are 22 persons currently involved in a national guard unit being established in San Juan County as part of Detech-men- t II, Company A, 1457 Engineering Battalion. Dennis Davis, Monticello Chamber of Commerce president, said Sgt. Peters will be in Monticello May 7 to enroll persons interested in joining the guard.
