Reed celebrated his, birthday at a dinner party on June 20 with Heather, his wife, providing all the hard work and preparations. The guests really enjoyed the lovely turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Annie Butt, a long time resident of Blanding, passed away on June 20 after a lingering illness. She was 88. These were some of the questions that plagued Carolyn Walker as her mind began to tease the possibility of going back to school for a higher education. ' Carolyn is one of the gifted and compassionate people .who worked at the San Juan Nursing Home. .She loved her work and because of it, developed a desire to go into nursing. Years earlier she had quit high school to marry. While having and caring tor a large family of eight children, presently ranging in age from eight to twenty seven , she managed to finish her senior year and get her diploma, but Carolyn had never imaginedber-se- lf capable of earning a college - . degree. A little over three years ago, because of adverse circumstances in Carolyn's; life; she was counseled to go back to . school and get an education." By this time she knew that nursing was the field for her. However, filings didn't work out at that time, so she started Juan taking classes at CEU-SCampus, With the help of the state rehabilitation program and the Job Training Partnership Act, Carolyn stayed in school. Along with all she has learned in college, she has become an expert at managing her family time, and finances, even to the point . an 29-3- camp 27-2- 9. , .For people who have arthritis, learning to live with the disease can be a major challenge. Arthritis - sufferers must often make changes in their lifestyles Arthritis sufferers must often recognize a necessity for making changes in their lives, the booklet reports. The Arthritis Foundation has a new, free booklet which discusses many of the problems faced by arthritis patients and offers suggestions on coping with the emotional and physical problems associated with the disease. Most days this means long hard hours of study and work to maintain the high grade point average she has consistently earned and also to keep her family organized. It has been a small price to pay for the education, self esteem, and social exposure she is getting. Carolyn was close to receiving her associates degree before she realized her dream of getting into the nursing program. Three years later, she graduated as an honor student with an associates of science degree. She willalso graduate from the LPN program in August. Her joy is increased by the fact (hat her son Jerome has graduated this spring from Provo Technical College. Having had a taste of accomplishment through education, Carolyn's , future plans include furthering her education and getting an RN degree.
