Love your children, but let them know that they are responsible for their actions, as we aU are. If we do not all work together, we may find many of our youth being destroyed before our very ' eyes. This ultimate result is unacceptable to most of us, and positive action is required by citizenry and police alike. Working together toward this common goal, we can assure the future of our community, our country, and our way of life through our most valuable resource, our children. We, as a Police Department, discussed these problems and it was perceived by us that the public wanted Blanding cleaned up. The logical place for us to start is by placing priority on prosecuting the illegal dealers and distributors of these dangerous substances. We requested assistance from . the State, but they were unable to make criminal cases on local Uniformed officers dealers. have very few choices in the methods they can use to pursue these criminals. However, one of the tactics used nationwide, and by our department, is to use one drug dealer to inform on another one, usually his supplier. We have made excellent inroads in the area of drug enforcement the last few months using the very method described hi one case we made above, five separate arrests of people involved in distributing drugs. There have been other cases of equal importance and we an- ticipate more. We are doing the job the way we feel the citizens of our city want us to. The last few weeks many of our detractors have voiced the that our tactics are opinion immoral. . They feel that we are wrong in handling these people as criminals. We feel that dealing drugs to the children of our community is the real immorality, and the important issue is our honest attempt to stop this creeping cancer from doing more damage than it has already done. When you hear someone on the immoral commenting of tactics your police, take a at close look that individual and their family. They are teaching them that they can flaunt authority and ignore the laws, of our land that give us a part of the quality of life we enjoy. In the past, many small businesses and professionals decided to incorporate in order to get the higher maximum contributions allowed for , corporate retirement plans. The 1982 Tax Act established approximate equality between retirement plans for sole proprietors and partnerships and those of corporations. With this in mind, businesses that incorporated solely to obtain the benefits of corporate retirement plans may now wish to consider disincorporation. In reviewing disincorporation, consider the following factors: 1. Some disparities favoring corporate retirement plans remain despite the attempts of the 1982 law to eliminate them. 2. Corporate liquidation is a taxable event; the tax conseand reviewed. estimated be should quences 3. Property transferred in a liquidation may not qualify for accelerated cost recovery or investment credit in the hands of the new owner. 4. Liquidation may trigger depreciation recapture and investment credit recapture, increasing your current year liability. 5. Legal fees, appraisal fees, and other costs of liquidation may be sizeable. 6. Existing corporate retirement plans must be frozen or the funds disbursed. 7 Limited legal liability obtained by operating as a corporation will be lost. The 1982 Tax Act provides limited tax relief for corporations that liquidate during 1983 or 1984. While disincorporation may be the best route for you to follow, it is clearly a step that requires consultation with your tax advisor.
