Lectures were given in the classrooms on self protection in a fire check floor temperature, drop and roll to put out fire on aperson; general home safety concepts; and escape routes in the home. Jerry Baum, fire chief, taught the sixth grade; Gail Ammerman taught the fourth and fifth grades; Marybeth Quinn taught the second and third grades; and Linda Weckesser taught the kindergarten and first grade. V0ELTER Black Voelter, born Irene December 8, 1915, in Blanding, Utah to David Patten Black and Alzada Kartchner Black, passed away March 6, 1984, at the Southwest Memorial Hospital in Cortez, Colorado. As a young women, she met John H. Voelter in Blanding and they were married on May 2, 1935. They later moved to Cortez where they Uved the majority of the time for 45 years. Funeral services were held on March 10, 1984 inthe Cortez Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints with Bishop Gary Tanner officiating. Opening prayer was given by Alvin Black, obituary by CleUa Blackner, talkby Dee Black, and benediction by Danny Decker. She was laid to rest in the Cortez Cemetery.
