Show THE SAN JUAN RECORD Wednesday February 15, 1984 BLf.l requests Input on wilderness impacts to obtain Workshop meetings WSAs inUtah, with several inter- public input on the upcoming Bureau - of Land Management (BLM) Draft Wilderness Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) are scheduled for late February and early March, The BLM mediate alternatives. Wilderness EIS scoping are scheduled as meetings follows: Moab: February BLM identifying significant issues and formulating alternatives to be analyzed in the Draft EIS. The Wilderness EIS will be used in making preliminary wilderness recommendations for BLM lands in Utah. It is anticipated that the document .will include five or six separate volumes . One volume cover will the statewide cumulative aspects. Four of five volumes will contain 73 site specific analyses (SSAs) covering the wilderness study areas (WSAs) in Utah. public hearing has been at the scheduled February Council Chambers Navajo Tribal A 21-- 24 in Window Rock on issues critical to the formation of the Navajo Tribal Education Policy. School administrators, school boards, parent committees and the general public are encouraged to attend, hi their December 1983 report to the Tribal Council, the Navajo Tribal Education Committee said, It is time to set educational goals for the Navajo Nation for the rest ofthis century. It is important that the Navajo , Public input received to date concerning the SSAs has been used to refine both, issues and impact analysis considered in the SSAs. Now that the BLM is in the EIS phase of the wilderness review they are looking for public input on issues of statewide concern. They also need public input on people decide together what they want for their children. What future do we want for our language, for our traditions? What kind of economic base do we want to develop for this Nation? What skills will we need to accomplish this? What kind of educational do we want for our system children? What must we do to gain control of our own future? The adoption of a Navajo Education Policy '.ill answer these questions. The February hearings on policy issues are the first step in this direction. what alternatives should be analyzed in the Draft EIS. The City requirement Council discussed various classifications of licenses noting that persons operating more than one business are only requiredtopay for one license, whichever is the highest classification. Persons selling products from their homes are required to have a, business license and this will be enforced. Steward Shumway, who serves tests offered for police officers The Utah Police Academy will be conducting a (POST) statewide test for law enforcement officers during April. The results of the examination will be' provided to law enforcement administrators over the entire state. Applicants also benefit, from the uniformity inherent in a single test program. Test application forms can be picked up from most Utah law enforcement agencies, or at Utah Peace Officers Standards and Training in Salt Lake City. Forms must be receivedby POST no later thanMarch 5, 1984. as a youth council member as part of the Sterling Scholar program, was appointed to serve on the City Parks and Recreation Committee. The newly appointed sidewalk committee consists of: Larry Thompsen, Craig Halls, Kent Debbie Tibbetts, Knight, Grant Lyman, Lynda Shumway, and Councilman Richard Pincock. Blanding City Council appointed Cleal Bradford and Stan Bronson as its representatives on the Cultural Center Board. Fred Halliday will also serve in his capacity as San Juan Foundation Chairman. Blanding City will sponsor a grant application for Community Impact Funds to initiate the development of the Blanding Cultural Center and Science Building for San Juan Center. The Council agreed that the city should hire a fourth worker for the city sidewalk and street crew using the workstudy program if possible. San Juan voters approve bond ofissue 5 to 1 not to exceed $5 million to finance $8 million for capital expendiSan Juan County voters over- - whelmingly endorsed three bond issues at the polls last Tuesday. Accepted by the voters were two to finance water projects and one to finance capital expenditures for healthcare. The Monticello Reservoirbond carried in 12 of the 15 precincts with a total vote of 1109 for and 217 against the proposal. Passage of the proposition gave authority to the San Juan Water Conservancy District to incur in- - propositions a water project near Monticello. The Recapture Dam Project carried in 12 of the 15 precincts with a total vote of 1163 for and against.
