D. Goon A- Critter crawl The Critter Crawl is only one of the special activities scheduled for during the Monticello Pioneer Days Carnival on July 23. There will be displays by club members and guest exhibitors of unusual gemstones, polished mineral specimens and handcrafted jewelry, There will be a free gem identification booth. Visitors may purchase geodes and have them opened on the spot by means of a diamond saw. There will be grab bags, a silent auction, slide programs, snanks sold by the Battle Rock H Club, and many door prizes. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 pjn. on Saturday, and 10 am. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. There is an admission charge. ' Co. annual golf tourney Most strokes; Carolyn Hatch. The men played 18 holes and Golfers from San Juan, Grand and Wayne counties participated in the annual Young's Machine Company invitational Golf Tournament on July 17. The 94 golfers, 76 men and 18 women, vied for trophies in 10 categories. Farming is among the occupations that place workers in potentially hazardous situations. Here in MonticeUo and the surrounding area, where agriculture is the livelihood of many individuals and their families, it behooves all members of the farming community to learn about the substances and materials they work with and to take adequate precaution. The effects on the lungs of toxic substances are inhaled varied and depend on such factors as the type of toxic exposure, the concentration of the gas, and the length of time that the individual has been exposed. For example, nitrogen dioxide poisoning, which sometimes afflicts farmers and other agricultural workers, can cause acute reactions and pulmonary conditions which improve with treatment. Exposure to high concentrations is frequently fatal.
