Show . i r .- .t f ft ' ' THE SAN JUAN RECORD Thursday November II, 1982 - Page 4 Monticello airport planning meeting fails for lack of interest by Carl Eisemann A scheduled meeting with the Monticello Council to City discuss Monticello improvement of the failed to aiiport last Wednesday when no local pilots materialize evening showed up. The council expressed disappointment that local pilots appear to lackinterest in remedying what appears to be a deteriorating situation at the local facility. Mayor Keith Redd and Carl Eisemann, member of the San Juan County Development Board, agreed that Monticello, as the county seat, deserves more than a second class aiiport. Redd pointed out that the county commission has agreed to fund improvements, but had charged the city with responsibility for submitting plans for improvement. Councilman Jack Young stated that he would investigate current contractural arrangements, adding that he lacked the knowledge to plan any airport changes. The ideas must come from local pilots. Young said. Monticello Chief Police Everett Johnson met with the council to report that officer Charles Skinner had been seper-ale- d from the force. Johnson recommended that Steve Stovall be hired on a probation90-d- ay ary period. Johnson stated that three applications had been received for an animal control officer. The council authorized hiring one of the applicants following satisfactory interviews. The new animal control officer will be responsible for maintenance of the dog pound, stray dog pick up, dog disposal and house to house registration of dogs. The council indicated that it is imperative that the position be filled quickly because of increased violations of the city dog ordinance. Approval was given to write off $209 in unpaid utility accounts due Signs of the Times to the city. City Manager Rick that the accounts had stated Terry accumulated over several years and, as the debtors had moved, were uncollectable except at great expense. The council approved a cost sharing agreement with L. A. Young Company for the repair of a leak in the third cell of the sewer lagoon. Cost to the city will be $9,000. Mayor Redd reminded the council of the November 9 water resources meeting at the county courthouse. The 7 p.m. meeting involves water rights for thepro-pos- ed Monticello reservoir. Redd also reminded council that members beginning November 17, council meeting will begin at 7 pjn. Electrical check check in the amount of $9,758.04 was mailed by Empire Electric Association, Inc. to San Juan County, Utah for 1982 proA perty tax payment. Fifteen cases heard in Seventh District Court by Carl Eisemann an abbreviated one-ho- ur In Seventh District Court Tuesday, Judge Boyd Bunnell dealt with three criminal, three probate, eight civil cases and the continu- ing Atlas Coiporation litigation. On the criminal docket, Aubrey Patterson was sentenced to a prison term and a$5000fine on a charge of illegal production of a controlled substance. The prison sentence was stayed when Judge Bunnell was informed that Patterson had enrolled in college and was doing well. Bunnell placed Patterson on two years probation and imposed a four weekend county sentence. The county dropped lesser charges of aggravated assault and intoxication against Wilford Grant when he pled guilty to a felony charge of motor vehicle theft. On the recommendation of the adult probation officer, Judge Bunnell deferred sentence pending an effort to place Grant in a state alcohol detoxification program. Jury trial for Robert Simons on a charge of forcible sexual abuse was set for March 22, 1983. In civil court action. Judge Bunnell granted a default divorce to Sandra Louise Munsen of Monticello, who testified that she had lived with her mentally ill one week- - to husband only Kathleen McRedmond, formerly ear 5-y- ear Navajo youth dies in auto accident Roy Lee Jr., 18, Whitehorse High School senior, was killed in a one-c- ar accident sometime last Friday night east of Montezuma Creek for the Navajo Police Department, which investigated the accident, said it A spokesman appeared that Lee was traveling at high speeds, lost control of the vehicle and over corrected. The car rolled several times before it plunged into the San Juan River. Lee was pinned under the car. The accident was not discovered until Saturday morning at approximately 11 am. Lee, son of Ray and Lillie of Lee Aneth, was a 1981 participant in the state crosscountry meet.
