Organizing themselves, they applied for and obtained a charter from the state of Utah to incorporate to help the approximately 100 handicapped persons in the county. The scholarships were provided by San Juan County and San Juan Mental Health. The school, now in its 27 th year, is the largest of its kind in the world. Burr, from Orem, was hired in February with workshop supervisor Voneal Draper and Vista volunteer Jim Schultz assisting. Act- ually, Brighter Life is a sheltered workshop where the handicapped can work at simple but worthwhile tasks to contribute to their own independence. The first project of the workshop is the assemblage of first aid kits to be sold. At present the workshop can handle ten persons and later will expand to 20 or more. Other ideas in the planning stage are a recreation pro gram and daycare center for the handicapped. The major problem at the moment is funds, according to Mr. Burr, until the workshop can become at least. A telephone campaign was recently conducted throughout the county to obtain contributions to help with repairs on the building, at 3rd South and 3rd West in Blanding. Some generous donations already made are: worth of paint from $880 self-supporti- Blanding ng, Home Center, sign for the building from Paul Foreman Signs, flooring from Custom Floors, $50 cash and some radio spots from Blanding Mercantile. Donations are heartily welcomed. Persons willing to assist may sponsor a handicapped person for one day with a $10 contribution or contribute to a sustaining sponsorship with $50.
