During the past two years numerous complaints and suggestions have come from residents concerning unsafe streets V intersections which, Black stated, were 90 good, valid ideas. Considerable time has been spent examining these streets, considering how much traffic moves- along them, the road conditions,' visibility at intervision barred by sections, trees, fences, shrubs, and curb and gutter condition, and the need for stop and yield signs. Thus far the police depart- - - ment, along with councilman Dave Guymon, have come up with four recommendations concerning through streets. These recommendations will go before the City Council for final decisions (1) They are recommendFifth South be a ing that street from the dairy through to Main Street and then from Main to Third West. Stop signs will be put on Second West for both North and South bound traffic helping to slow down the 21st Century traffic that goes through the residential area, Black stated. They may also in the future have to reevaluate the intersection at Third East if problems Blanding s average temperatures for the week were a high of 79.3 and a low of 46.4. The mean was at 62.9 for that Last year the averweek. a high of 76.9 and were ages a low of 43.6 with a mean of 60.2. A recommendation is decision. One of the biggest problems relating to traffic are the school zones, many of which are not properly marked, Black indicated. Clearly marked cross walks are needed as well as marked parking areas. They are working with the schools to correct these problems. He also indicated that the yield sign on Main and Second North needs to be raised one foot to be better no U turn seen, and the to be raised needs also sign as well as having the sign painted on the cement retaining walls in front of the Junior High. Chief Black also commented that a survey was recently conducted by a high school student using the speed check radar, and it was discovered that 75 of those speeding through the school zone at the 4 ler system still isnt in the ground due to the slowness of obtaining the needed pipe fittings. It has been decided not to plant grass until the fall to permit the park's use during the summer. On June 22 there will be a softball doubleheader as both Montezuma Creek and Bland- ing will be in town to play the Bluff teams. Action starts at 6 p.m. at either the school field or, hopefully, the park. A physical fitness and jogging class will start on June 22 at 7 a.m. Anyone interested should meet at the park pavilion at 7 on any Tuesday and Thursday. Black indicated that the council is interested in this and that, if it were done, it would take a great deal of the traffic off Fourth West. Chief Black stressed that it will be up to the City Council to act upon the above four recommendations and make the final new park. ' As for the park, the sprink- through street to Fifth West and the existing yield sign will be changed to a stop for both North and Southbound traffic on Fourth West. Yield signs have caused too many problems, Black stated. A dead end sign will be put up at Center on Fifth West. (3) Second North will be through to Third West where a stop sign will be put up. Stop signs will be put up for North and South bound traffic at Second West and Second North and at Center and Second West. by Alvin Reiner Excuse the sloppy handwriting, but we ere having one of those Bluff dust storms, and the paper in front of me is practically obliterated, while my trailer, affectionately known as the tin palace is being vibrated by the wind.
