In nearby Aztec, Chester attended school part time, and helped in the flour mill. Later he and his brother, Edson, got work in a coal mine to help support the family. They returned to make their home in Monti-cell- o. Chester worked out east of Monticello running the tractor which is now on display in the City Park. Prior to that he had worked in a flour mill in Blanding with his father, who began to run another mill in Monticello. Chester helped with that, and later took over its operation. He ran the mill until it burned, in 1932. Chester got a contract to drive the U. S. Mail. For five years he carried both mail and in a Model-- T passengers, Ford, from Monticello to Bluff and from Monticello to Moab. He also served one term as Mayor of Monticello.
