Dr. Melvin Frost, assistant professor of geography at Arizona State University hopes to improve these outmoded instructional methods. He has a patent pending for a time-dat- e teaching device that may bring about a new face for time. "Most difficulties in deter- mining time zones and date changes originate in teaching methods," Dr. Frost noted. "Mistakes and misconceptions develop when time is demonstrated as a stop and go phenomena, and when too much emphasis is placed on the Inter national Date Line." The ASU geographer contends that the use of flat charts and other devices with numbered time zones are the basis for many false concepts.
