Show Shell Oil Company Total Equipment Natural gas reservoir to be studied Operation Paso Natural Gas Company, El the U. S. Atomic Energy Commission and the U. S. Department of the Interior have agreed to conduct a joint evaluation of a deep underground natural gas field south of Pinedale, Wyoming, as a possible site for a nuclear stimulation experiment similar to Project Gasbuggy, it was announced recently. Project Gasbuggy, which is also being conducted by the three organizations, was the world's first experiment involving nuclear stimulation of a natural gas reservoir. It involved a nuclear detonation on Dec. 10, 1967, in the San Juan Basin of Northwestern New Mexico. Currently production tests are in progress through the well in which the Gasbuggy explosive was detonated. If results of a projected evaluation of the Pine-da- le area are favorable, an experiment will be designed for use of a nuclear explosive in an effort to substantially increase production of natural gas from the field. The area to be studied is the Pinedale Unit, a 90, field in which El Paso and gas 18-mo- nth 000-ac- re Mountain Fuel Supply Company of Salt Lake City, Utah, nave pooled their holdings for efficient development. El Paso is the operator of the field. Object of a nuclear stimulation experiment in the Unit would be to increase production low permefrom the "tight" rock ability gas-beari- ng formation lying more than 7, 500 feet below the surface. In low permeability formations the gas moves through fissures or pathways to the wellbore with difficulty. Present development within the Pinedale Unit, consisting of eight wells, indicates that the large amount of gas reserves the area cannot be underlying at produced economic rates using conventional methods of will such as introducing under high pressure to liquids and other fissures the enlarge which the pathways through move. gas may A 13, 500-ac- re portion of the 79. 55 599. 18 Building and Grounds Operations: Til. 80 Blanding City Utilities Suburban Gas of Blanding 92. 96 Total Bldg.
