Show Open House spotlights National Hospital week The San Juan Hospital will hold an open home on next Wednesday, May 15, to com memorate National Hospital Week which has been designated for May 12 through Ma 18 and also to show off its new facilities to the residents of the county. Croups are invited to tour the hospital by appointment ahy any time during National Hospital Week and on May 15) from six to nine p. m. the hospital will hold an 'Open Home" to show the new addi- tion recently completed. Everyone is invited to attend and see the beautiful new facilities. During National Hospital Week the theme is "Your Hospital -- - People Caring for People. " During National Hospital week in 1967 an editorial was written which described the hospitals of our nation. It was pointed out that at any hour - at dawn, throughout the day, at dusk, in the middle of the night the people of our community hospitals are ready to answer any emergency. The editorial went on to explain that in order for the hospital to give tills constant care, the skills of many people must bo utilized. It described this group of skilled people as the "Hospital Family. " As we celebrate "National Hospital occurred. Through training, the policeman was able to attend to the "patient's" immediate needs. Soon an ambulance appeared on the Week" this year we should bring this same 'Tamlly" bac on stage as we carry out the theme for 1968. We will go outside the "family" to get our leading man, however, became without him we cannbt exist, or have reason to exist as a family. This man will be called a "Patient. " Our story might begin as our "patient" is driving happily home late one evening but due to circumstances beyond his control he is Involved In an auto accident. The first person to attend tills seriously injured "patienti" is a policeman, who, because he "cares" was patrolling the area in which the accident scene staffed by two men wh$, became they "cared" were prepared to assist in such emergencies. With the help of these skilled men who "cared" our patient was soon on his way to the hospital. The arrival of the ambulancp at the hospital Immediately signals people with many different skills to start moving quickly and efficiently into action. It is as if someone had just disturbed a beehive. At first glance it seems as though there is mass confusioq but as the "patient" enters thd hospital the confusion vanishes from our gaze and we see skiJ led people moving very deliberately about their duties. Realizing the time of night, the type of work that must be done, we admit once more that we are watching people who "care. " People, who because they have a desire toi help others, have prepared themselves so that they would be qualified for the work. Having arrived at the hospi- -' tal, the patient is now having his injuries treated by members of the supporting cast. Within a few hours the patient will wake up in the recovery room, unaware of the many skills that brought about the successful conclusion of this drama. Our leading man did not know that in hospitals, as well as in other parts of the community, everybody gets into the act. His well being depended on a policeman, skilled ambulance drivers, doctors, nurses and from behind the scenes dietitians, cooks, housekeepers, pharmacists, laundry workers, technicians, office hlp and many others. All these people are people who "care1' cared enough to want to "care for people". Our patient can be thankful that these men and women have high standards of performance, not only for themselves, but also for the products and equipment they work with. Wherever we go we find eople who "care" but nowhere do we find so many mep and women dedicated to "car-- ; ng for people" as we find in the "hospital family". During National Hospital Week the citizens of our communities are invited to visit the hospital to obtain a better understanding of the "hospital family" and the tilings they are prepared to do for them. It would also be a good gesturq for them to express their thank)s to those who "cared" enough ty. be willing to give of their tim, day or night, to "care" for us, remembering that some da we may be the leading man. We may be the "patient. " x-r- iauiy tv aruiuiuu, waru vaerKj fills out the necessary papers to admit a patient to the hospital.
