A meeting was held in the R, S. haU Monday alternoon, attended by about seventy live farmers find bust-nee- s men, to listen fiom II. A. Kearns ,aud F. L. Copening with reference to their doings as a special committee .sent to wait upon Mr. Locker. Messrs. Kearns and Copening both addressed the meeting, detailing their investigation of Mr. Looker's withdrawal and their interview with representatives of tho Utah Sugar company. They found the Utah company disposed to dictate terms and inclined to build or delay building a factory as it suited the company. They fouud that all past effort had been a waste of energy, and sought another source. The committee stated that it had succeeded in linding Salt Lake capitalists who were ready to take up the enterprise and furnish the necessary money to build a sugar factory in the vicinity of Gunnison upon certuiu conditions. Tho proposition is that the farmers subsoribe stock in the concern to the extent of not lees of the capital stock rethan quired to establish it. Money for this purpose will be advanced to the farmers at a low rate of interest and .on sufficient time that it will be no hardships to refund. The object of the loan is to get the farmers interested as stockholders and consequently their assurance of support to the industry lor their own safety. After some talk from Mr. Copening and others upon the benefits to be derived from an establishment of that kind the matter was put to a rising .vote, all except two or three favoring an acceptance of the proposition. A .committee of five was elected to draft an agreement along the lines proposed, with instructions to engage legal counsel iu conferring with the parties proposing to furnish the required capital. The following named gentlemen compose said committee : F. L. Copening, H. A. Kearns, T. JF. Kearns, W. H. Gribble and John M. Knighton. The committee was instructed to .confer with the sugar .beet growers in this and Sevier counties and solicit in the proposed their projeot. The meeting was the most harnponious ever held here on the subject. All present seemed earnest and heartily in favor of furthering the project. The finance committee heretofore elected was retained and is enthusiastically at work upon plans to raise means necessary to py expenses of carrying the projeet to huccess if possible. d Money to Loan on water Lirge or small amounts. )pENING . putter, under Aot of CoivrMof March To Form Commercial Club.
