Show August 2004 Arapeen Jamboree Guide Remembering Jamboree 2003 First Annual Arapeen ATV Jamboree A Great Success By COREY BLUEMEL, Emery Co. Progress 2003 who first attended the annual riders ATV in Jamboree Ferron, Utah Arapeen were introduced to the splendor and diversity of the mountains and the desert sur- Ferron, Utah-Fro- m Aug. 13-1- 6, ATV rounding this rural community In an effort to save the scenic trails in the Manti-L- a Sal Forest from closure, the Arapeen Trail Committee was formed. With a grant from the State of Utah Natural Resources Department of Parks and recreation, the committee and the local forest service representatives organized and mapped the Arapeen Trail System. A local OHV club, The Southeastern Utah Off Highway Vehicle Club, and the City of Ferron, planned and hosted the jamboree as a way of introducing visitors to the diverse landscapes of Emery County. This first annual jamboree exposed the riders to three canyon rides and one desert ride. The alpine meadows and heavy forests were showcased during the Reeder Canyon, Indian Creek and the Hole Trail rides. Jamboree riders were introduced to the exceptional beauty of the San Rafael Swell on the high desert plateau through Fix-I- t Pass. Not only were the visitors treated to the scenic wonders of Emery County, but the local OHV club served as hosts and guides for the jamboree. Each night, the club had a delicious dinner planned for the group. The first night, local cowboy poets entertained at a barbecue dinner held on the Molen Reef east of Ferron. At the conclusion of the four-da- y jamboin their ree, the visitors were unanimous to next return all year. enjoyment and plan The 2004 jamboree is in the planning stages now and those plans include extending the jamboree to five days to allow visitors more time to explore the more than 500 miles of trails in the Arapeen Trail System.
