It teaches future generations where they came from and set the path for the future. One way to pass this history on has been through monuments and markers that tell in simplified version, the story of an area. Emery County is rich in history. There are thousands of ancient markers in the form of pictographs and petroglyphs that tell the story of the early people in the area. Forty two modern day monuments and markers tell the story of those who followed. Twenty-- . one of these tell of the Old Spanish Trail and the mark that these tell of the early Spanish explorers had on the area. Twenty-on- e of the These modern markers been erected have county. day settling by a variety of groups to preserve and pass on the rich history that is Emery County. Eleven of these were erected by the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and 20 by the Boy Scouts and American and private groups. The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers exists to preseive Utahs pioneer history and the struggles these early people made in settling this area. The goal of the Emery County Company is to preseive the history of this area. Part of this goal is to make people aware of the markers and monuments throughout the area. This will be a series of articles telling about the various markers and their location. The DUP hopes as you explore Emery County, you stop for a few minutes and read these markers.
