The students spent weeks preparing for this eent. They began by researching and preparing a topic. They wrote a report on their topic and then illustrated the topic for a final product to display at the fair. The students came from the school visited the fair as w ell as parents of the students. The topics were many and varied. The many items of history portrayed included: voting rights, Cherokee trail of tears, the American flag, Japanese history, aborginal history, pub others. Those students winning on this day included sixth grade-individu- al exhibit, Taylor Behling. His work was entitled Aborigine Rights, the group exhibit for sixth grade winners w'ere Brittany Gibbons and Natalie Winn. Their work was entitled Childrens Rights and Responsibilities Around the World. The fifth grade individual exhibit winner was Joy Malone with Keeping the Little Children Free, and the group exhibit winners were Michael Tomsich and Devin Hales for their work entitled Flag Desecration vs. The First Amendment. The Media Presentation winner was Marie Harvey, a sixth grade student, for her vv ork entitled Xa.i GermanyJews. The historical paper w inner vv as Dustin Jensen, also a sixth grade student, with his work "Martin Luther King. Jr." At the competition held at the College of Eastern L'tah, Marie Han ey receiv ed first place in the Jr. Division for Media. Brittany Gibbons and Natalie Winn re ceived second place in the Jr. for Group Exhibit. Jv sics competition The competition included different types of debate, speeches, and Student Congress All of those who took part did a great job Ren Halt took fourth place in Spar (a type of debate). Jerome Burns and Rachel Dunham tied for first in Spar In Student Congress, an ev ent in vv hieh students simulate a session of congress and practice parliamentary procedure, Jerome Burns took third place and Ren Hatt was awarded the first place medal. Nick Brady also qualified for state in this event. In Oratory, a minute prepared speech, Rachel Dun7-- ham took first place and 2 i, A I t i imA. , Michael Tomsich and Devin Hales. Rebekah Thornton qualified for state. Despite takingonly eight students the GRHS team took third place overall They are looking forward to the state competition that will be held March 21 and 22 in St. George. The basketball season ended for the Pirates after losing to beating Bryce and finally losing to Meridian in the state tournament. They vv orked hard and had a great season Now the golf and track season is starting for the Pirates. The region and state drama meets are also coming up in April.
