Show Emery County Progress, Castle Dale, Utah Travis Day and Carley Davis honored by Rocky Mountain Collegiate Media Association Emery High Drama presents Nine Girls April 28, 29 and May I On April 29, 30 and May 1 the Emery High Drama Department will be presenting their fifth play of the school year. This production will be a dark and scary murder mystery called Nine Girls. The play will begin at 8:00 p.m. each evening and will be held in the new little theater in the Foreigner; and Bull In A China Shop. They have also sponsored the BYU Mens Cho- rus. The Drama Department has also been very busy with region and state competitions. At the region drama competition held at Carbon High the Emery High team Spartan Center. placed third with Cooper Smith region The other Emery High productions this year have all been comedies but this production has been chosen because 30 years ago Mrs. Grace Johansen produced this very play at Emery High. The director of the present production, Neal Peacock, attended a performance and was impressed and influenced by it. Now 30 years later he is doing a remake of Nine Girls. Additionally, it was discovered that Johansen did her first production of this show 50 years ago and that the 1969 version was actually a remake of her 1949 version (the play was written in champion in humorous reading and Shandi Wilson taking second in region. Amanda Harrison placed second in dramatic reading. At the state competition held April 17th at Lehi High School the Emery High team again made a good showing. Only 10 percent of the competitors make it in to the finals. Emery High had Lane Stilson in the humorous reading finals, Amanda Harrison and Jennifer Miller in the dramatic reading finals, Monica Jensen in the pantomime finals and Andrea Swenson g took second in state in the competition. Andrea was up against particularly tough dramatic competition in that event and was able to place second with a humourous piece, quite an accomplishment. As was mentioned, Andrea is also one of the stars of Nine Girls. Though the end of the school year is rapidly approaching the Drama department still has two plays to present. These are the Beginning Drama productions and they will take place on May 11 and 12 at 7 p.m. in the little theater. The cost will be $2 per person. Each year the Emery High Beginning classes get their turn at a play and the two that will be presented this year are The Incredible Bulk at Bikini Beach and Dogsbreath Devereaux the Dastardly Mono-Actin- 1934). Peacock says, It is a murder mystery that uses a lot of girls and when I saw it years ago it scared the heck out of me. Doing this play serves two purposes it gives us a chance to use a lot of girls and it gives us a chance to honor Mrs. Johansen and those actresses who were in the previous productions. When asked who those other actresses were Peacock declined to say simply stating that, They dont look old enough to be in high school 30 years ago and so I dont need to enlighten the public on their ages. He did mention that they were being invited to attend the production for free where they would be recognized for their roles. The actresses of the present production include Janelle Johnson, Shandi Wilson, Erika Mattox, Andrea Swenson, Cammie Scow, Megan Beagley, Erika Sehestedt, Bridi Hinkins, Alicia Winn and Jennifer 30 Travis Day, Lisa Fridberg, Adrienne Platero, Dusty Decker, Kay Lynn Townsend, Mercedes Murdock, Christina West, Katie Willey, Carley Davis, Casey Wilson, Victor Peterson, Les Travis Day and Carley Davis were honored by the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Association Media (RMCMA).
