EHS News SerBATTLING THE vices photo by My-Lin- Gregersen h artans finish fourth at state By Jake Bulklev EHS News Services writer After an opening win over Ogden at the 3A state tournament last week at UVSC, Emery dropped two games in a row, first to Bear River in the semifinals, and then to Uintah in a game for third place. As a result, Emery finished in fourth place. Emery 59, Ogden 43 Emery played the Ogden Tigers last Thursday at 11:30 am. Second ranked Emery broke open a tight game late in the third quarter to help them to the 3A semifinals. Score at the half was Emery 18, and the score at the end Ogden of the third quarter was Emery 34, Ogden 26. Emerys Ben Luce, leading the individual stats this season for points per game, later in the game, hit a while teammate Cole Pitchforth was fouled underneath, resulting in a play for Emery. This was a highly intense game, but in the end, Emery prevailed by 16 points, Leading the Spartans in scoring 17, 59-4- 3. was senior Ben Luce with 22 points. Emery shot 15 for 19 from the line which helped in the winning cause. Ogden played hard, but just could not get things going. Inside scoring was virtually nonexistent for the Tigers as Emery low post players Pitchforth and Brad Roundy each played a nice defensive game, holding Ogdens leading scorer Ben Allison to just seven points inside. Emery 61, Bear River 70 (OT) What a heartbreaker! This one was a tough loss for Emery to swallow as Bear River advanced to the 3A state championship game. Emery looked good all the way through the game except for the last few seconds of regulation as Bear Rivers Kurt Webb field goal to hit a game-tyintie the game and send it into overtime. Emery then only scored four points in overtime as Bear River scored an amazing 13 points in just four minutes of overtime play. Luce once again led the Spartans in scoring with 33 which included six field goals. Emery only hit 11 line which of 19 from the three-throfree-thro- g w w ended up hurting them. Senior, Ben , Luce said, We should have won that, game. The ball went off a Bear River player with seven seconds left, but the referee apparently saw otherwise. If we get the ball, then we win the game. Emery because Emery was down 13 points at the half. Emery just could not get it rolling. The Spartans shot 16 for 24 at the line which is not the best they have shot this season, but not the worst either. Final score was Uintah 82, Emery 68. Leading the Spartans once again was Luce with 17 points. He did have some help this time from B J Butler who scored 15, but it just was not free-thro- w - free-thro- one-an-o- 4 fourth. She plays volleyball, basketball and participates in track, theater, Honor Society and Peer Helpers at Emery High. She has maintained a 3.6 GPA and' says French and theater are her , . favorite classes. This senior likes to play with friends, talk on the phone and swim. After graduation, Alicia plans to go to college to become a coach. She also wants to get mar-- ' ried in the LDS temple and raise a family.
