In addition to putting the new phones into action, the coaltion is continuing to work towards decreasing domestic violence in Emery County by advocating new legislation, improving continuity of of services between Carbon and Emery Counties and increasing general awareness. Scottish Power promises better services company claims PacifiCorps customers will benefit from merger UK PacifiCorps electric customers in the West will benefit from the most comprehensive utility customer service standards in the United States backed by payments to customers after merging with ScottishPower, the companies said Saturday. In testimony filed with regulators in four of the western states where PacifiCorp operates, ScottishPower also committed to make improvements across a range of company operations that will make PacifiCorp one of the top 10 performing U.S. utilities by 2005. After listening to PacifiCorp customers, were making the same commitments for them that were already delivering to our customers in the United Kingdom, Richardson, who will become Chief said Alan Executive Officer of PacifiCorp when the transaction closes. Good service is good business anywhere in the world. Well guarantee to restore power within 24 hours, Richardson said, citing one of the many significant customer service standards. Failure means we pay the customer $50, plus $25 for every additional 12 hours out of service. Richard T. OBrien, Chief Operating Officer of PacifiCorp, who also submitted testimony, said, A com- bination with ScottishPower will enable PacifiCorp to become a top performing utility more quickly, more economically and with a higher degree of certainty than if we were to proceed alone. The testimony also detailed ScottishPowers strong commit- ments to the environment, the communities served by PacifiCorp, and employees. In unveiling the guaranteed customer service and company performance standards, Richardson said ScottishPower would invest $55 million over the next five years to begin phasing in the targeted service improvements immediately following completion of the transaction. Richardson and other ScottishPower witnesses submitted written testimony Friday to the regulatory commissions in Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming in support of the merger of ScottishPower and PacifiCorp. The testimony also described cost efficiencies ScottishPower will implement, including $10 million in corporate costs in the first three years. Over time, additional efficiencies that ScottishPower will bring to PacifiCorps operations will lead to prices for customers that are lower than they would have been without the transaction, Richardson said. Snapped power line causes local outage By DANA BEHLING Staff writer Last Thursday (Feb. 25) at approximately 10:30 a.m. a power line, belonging to Utah Power, snapped out on Dutch Flat road in the area of Sam Singletons farm. This left the area from Emery to Castle Dale without power for about an hour. Richard Herring, on the scene, called Ferron Citys Fire Depart- ment out to the area because the downed line caused a small grass fire. Mike Waymon and Jim Peterson from the Ferron Fire Department responded to the call. Waymon and Peterson stated Singleton had been out feeding his cattle right under the power line and had just pulled out of the area when the line fell. Singleton, and his cattle, was very fortunate he was not electrocuted by the fallen line. Utah Power responded quickly and got the line repaired, restor (Continued on page 2A) t ing power to the area. Unfortunately, the same power line, but this time near the Clawson track, between Clawson and Ferron also broke. It was reported that it blew when the power was restored to the line af- ter the repairs at Singletons farm. The downed line started a grass fire in this area also. Ferrons Fire Department was again called out, only this time there were no fire fighters available to go out, so Jamie Nielson and Jackie Jensen from the Ferron Fire Department, with the permission of the Emery County Sheriffs Department, responded to the call. Nielson and Jensen decided that someone needed to go, so they went out on the call and got the grass fire put out. The Sheriffs office told them if they were trained and knew what to do they could go out. Castle Dales Fire Department responded to the call later, after (Continued on page 4A) |
