Show J J 8A Emery County Progress Tuesday, July 4, 1995 From IJSII Youth council Student receives scholarship LOGAN- - stu- Twenty-tw- o dents have been awarded prestigious University Club Scholarships to attend Utah State University, announced Mark Tenhoeve, director of high schoolcollege relations. Mistie Johansen, Castle Dale, is among the noted recipients. Twelve University Club Scholarships were named this year, in addition to 10 University Club College Scholarships sponsored by Utah State's academic colleges. Johansen's scholarship is presented by the College of Agriculture. The University Club program offers the most prestigious scholarships awarded at Utah State, said Tenhoeve. Awards are funded by private endowments that have grown dramatically since 1969 when the program was begun by then USU President Glen Taggart. Recipients of this scholarship are top students from all across the country who participate in the University Club competition, Tenhoeve continued. This year, more than 800 students competed for the scholarships. University Club Scholarships provide full tuition for four years and annual cash stipends. Mistie is the daughter of Kirk and Julie Johansen of Castle Dale. She is a 1995 graduate of Emery High School where she was tiie FFA Chapter president. She was also a member ofthe National Honor Society, Emery Rodeo Club and a member of the varsity cross country team. An award-winnin- g high school student, Mistie was her school's General Sterling Scholar representative and a straight-- honor roll student. A She was a member of the Academic Cross Country Team. Her FFA recognitions were numerous, including a place on the first place State Livestock Judging Team, first place State Ag Sales Team, All-Sta- prepares te city flag third place National Beef Judge, second place state Prepared Public Speaker, and a state qualifier for high ar school rodeo. Mistie is active in her church and is a youth leader. She is a museum tour guide, a tutor for elementary students, and sings in the LDS Youth Choir. Ferron City asked the Youth City Council to sew the flag. Angie Worth and her mother, Rebecca Worth, designed and sewed Ferron's flag. It depicts e acmany of Ferron's tivities, including golfing, hunting, fishing and boating. The Youth City Council voted, and Angie was chosen to represent Ferron in the Olympic Angie Worth fun-tim- it Utah State. Some of the program highlights included songs by Shala Pitchforth, daughter of Shane and Laurie Pitchforth of Ferron, Junior Miss Peach Days Amanda Huntsman, daughter of Mike and Camille Huntsman, and Miss Peach Days Attendant Chassie Bowden who sang "On My Own."
