It was given to him by his father for 37 Guest writer HUNTINGTON Garth Wakefield wore his fathers white coat to direct the last group of songs at the Hunting-to- n Glee Club Fall Concert. The concert, set to honor all past directors, members and accompanists, focused on Perry P. Ryan Don Atwood is a 9th grader at Canyon View Jr. High. He is the son to Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Atwood of Huntington. He enjoys all sports especially basketball. He also enjoys to and hunt. This year during the rifle deer hunt, he was able to shoot a three point. fish Paul Joseph Wain was bom in Liverpool, England on November 30th, 1977. He moved to the U.S.A. on September 1st, 1989 and is now a legal resident alien. Paul is a gifted artist and hopes one day to become a professional cartoonist. Sponsored by BK's Stop N Shop, Huntington 687-939- 3 Nielson. As a child Garth used to accompany Dad to club and later he joined as had brother Gregg. He dreamed of directing the grou p sometime. When the chance beckoned, he came to practice, traveling from Salt Lake to rehearsal one evening and also to see Mom. He gives Mom bouquets for rearing him and siblings with Dad gone so much of the time. He told of the joys of returning to the old home town and the happiness of being a part of the commemoration for Dad. Among the songs he directed was Out of the Dusk to You. It was sung at Dads and Granddads funerals by the Glee Club. He led The Palms, 01 Man River, The Old Home Town and May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You to end the program which he described as a glorious memory. In agreement, the large audience rose in standing ovation. Bryce Wilson, who was recognized for professionalism in directing the club, has been in the Glee Club for 26 years. He for awhile was with Erroll Litster before assuming the full directorship. He led 10 songs of diverse theme, including the nut brown maiden whose pearly white teeth clacked as she waltzed. We thrill that we have Biyce as our director. When he compliments us, we feel that he means it, said Kendall .Mortensen. Mr. Mortensen noticed that his white coat has shrunk while hanging in the closet. The club has recently appeared in dark suits and white shirts. This night all were attired in white coats, white shirts, black bow tie, black kerchief in breast pocket and black trousers. He noted that in the early 70s when the club had dwindled away to a meeting programs which include a sermon by one ofthe members. And they sing at funerals and many other programs. Current members are Lond Wakefield, Kendall MorHal Nielson, Allan tensen, Almond, Dean Young, Lyndon Gardner, Van Gardner, Chad Pugmire, Wayne McCandless, Willard Young, Mike McCandless, Ford Nielson, Ruben Brasher, Rex Johnson, Ross Gordon and Bryce Wilson.-Hal Nielson is president, and Annette Cook is the accompanist. Rex Johnson joined the group a year ago after retiring from work in California. His expertise as writer, historian and speaker enhances the club image.. From 1919 when Evert Johnson organized the group in high school and bid others to join, 127 men from all walks of life in Castle Country have responded. Ted Nielson and Perry McArthur, two charter members, stood for recognition.. Ted has the longest tenure of anyone but is inactive for health reasons. Ford Neilson, 83, holds the record of 64 years for the longest active tenure. Ruben Brasher, 85, counts 45 years service. He dropped out a year ago, but he is back now thanks to rides extended by the Gardner brothers. Van Gardner, 68, counts 52 years. Hal Nielson, Hal Guymon, Lamond Gardner, Lund Leonard and Dean Young note over 40 years membership. Wayne McCandless, 31, and Mike McCandless, 24, have served a year. More young men are needed to carry on the tradition when the seniors fade away. They were billed as the celebrated Lyric Harmony Quartette. X ' off . cup. He played bass horn in the band and drums in the orchestra. He made the basketball team that went to state for the first time. He was in demand for lead roles in school musicals throughout high school and even recruited after he had graduated. At 16 he was asked to be the ward chorister. He was a member of the Huntington Glee Club under Evert Johnson. Perry, Evert, Ted Nielson and Rulon Johnson worked up v-'- Y . She has attended schools In Idaho, Florida and Emery County. Tanya has always been an excellent student She was In the National Junior Honor Society In eighth and ninth grades In Florida. She Is now a member of the National Honor Society. She was listed In Who's Who Among American High School Students" New Holiday and Prom Arrivals in eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th grades. Tanya plays the clarinet She has been in honor bands In both Florida and Utah. She has also attended region and state solo ensembles. She Is In the Math Club, Peer Helpers and band. Tanya enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves to camp and hike. She Is a fan of Emery athletics. Tanya Is planning on attending Snow College next year. He was starting offensive and defensive lineman on the varsity football team. Bryce Is currently taking three AP classes for college credit. His future plans include a college education and a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints. He currently works at Coast to Coast where he enjoys associating with customers and fellow employees. Bryce Is the son of Larry and Elraln Thompson of Orangeville.
