Through a unique arrangement with Brigham Young University, Emery will host Richfield at the Marriott Cen- ter this Wednesday, N ov. 22 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for students. Emerys Shawn Bradley and Richfields Ryan Cuff enter the game just a few weeks after signing letters of intent to play basketball for BYU, so the game will be the first of many on the Marriott By LARRY W. DAVIS Progress editor A late start has not deterred the Emery Spartan wrestling team from looking for a successful season. Because of the length of the football season, the Spartans will have limited practice under their belts as they go into the opening of the floor for the two prep season. Although the first varsity match isnt until Tuesday, Nov. 28, at Spanish Fork, the Emery JV Wrestling Tournament will kick off the season standouts. Coach Todd Jeffs will bring a talented bunch of seniors into this years lineup, as S' ft tonight, Tuesday, in the Emery gym as teams from Spanish Fork, Payson, Carbon and East Carbon come to town. The first home varsity meet will be Dec. 5 when the Spartans host Mountain View of Orem, a 4A school. Coaches Mark Hansen and Kelly Alton have been looking closely at a few veteran wrestlers and several newcomers as they prepare for the season. The depth chart as of late last week showed several wrestlers vying for the 103-lvarsity spot, including Ryan Rasmussen, Wade Anderson, Kenny Johnson and Troy diviHuntsman. In the 112-lsion, Scott Justesen and Matt Jensen are competing while Mike Eden and Jeff Earl are in division. the 112-lAt 125, Wally Kiesewetter and Sean Godfrey are in the running while Bodee Allred is alone at 130. At 135, Cory Allred and Cody Jensen are battling, and in the 140-lclass, Yory Allred is ready to take the varsity., role. Lyle Everett and Tom Adams are n listed at 145 with Corey and Tyler Willson wrestling at 152. Chad Curtis is alone at 160 while the team does not have wrestlers in the 170 and 180 divisions. Heavyweight wrestler is senior Eric Mortensen. With Eden, Bodee Allred, Lyle Everett, Corey VanBu-re- n and Eric Mortensen, the i'ff.'U Wv..'; Emery returns most of the players off the 1989 2A championship team. In addi tion to Bradley, Emery will have returning starters Steven Gordon and Ryan Stilson. Also seeing a lot of varsity action, and serving in both a reserve and staring role last season is Chris Wilson. Cody Allred, Rob Wagoner, Scott Chynoweth and Jason Nelson also bring talent and experience to the team. Emery is opening the season right where it left off last season against its old nemesis from Richfield. The Cats have remained in the 2A ranks while Emery was moved up to 3A, so this contenst is even more unique. In the past, some of the greatest games in Utah high school competition have come between Emery and Richfield. Last year Emery defeated Richfield three times, but two of those wins were by a single point. There will not be a junior varsity or sophomore game, but coach Jeffs said that the games will be made up at a later date. Busses will travel to the game as Emery plans to transport the drill team, band, cheerleaders and interested students. Local fans are also encouraged to come to the game. The Marriott Center has over 20,000 seats so there should be plenty of room for everyone, the coach said.
