DAVIS Progress editor When Eric Cook, 18, of Pleasant Grove came to Emery County for the Allred Family Reunion last week, he didnt plan on entering the Emery County Fair River Bottom Run. I read about the race last night and decided to enter," he said after just completing the 5K portion of the race. The Pleasant Grove High School graduate and SUSC student not only entered the River Bottom Run, he was the first runner to cross the finish line. Eric predicted that his time would be 16 minutes and 30 seconds, but he crossed the line in a time of 17:25. Tm a little out of shape, he said. Eric is a member of the SUSC y team and was a cross-countr- top high school distance runner. I really like the course, he said, referring to the route from SR-2- 9 above Orangeville, down the Ghost Road, through Castle Dale and ending at the park. Its downhill, easy and real pretty. Eric was among 23 runners in this years River Bottom race while Dale Larson, Danile Coles and Paul Neese ran in the 10K. Dr. Coles won that race in a time of 43:01. He was just barely ahead of Dale whose time was also logged at 43:01. He predicted that his time would be 43:00. Paul finished in 48:49. Terri Rushton was the first female to complete the race. Her time was 23:17. Ben Brown of Wellington took second in the 5K with a time of Dan17:45 while Stucki local was the first ny runner to finish the 5K. His time was 22:10. The race was under the direction of Tracy Jeffs who also competed along with his wife Sandra. The time predictions were new to the River Bottom Run, which is held each year as part of the Emery County Fair. Jackets were given to the top three runners who came closest to predicting their finish times. Jackets went to Dale Larsen, Ben Brown and Danny Stucki. Jackets also went to the top winners: Dr. Coles, Terri Rushton and Eric Cook. A close finish in the River Bottom Run is turned Missy Wood of Orangeville placed third overall in the Skyline 60, an endurance race of rider and horse held at Cleveland Reservoir last Saturday. Twenty riders competed in the portion of the race which also included a endurance run. The course 60-mi- le 25-mi- le begins at Cleveland Reservoir, travels through Black Canyon, Potters Pond, Skyline Drive and then ends at the reservoir. Riders and horses from throughout the West competed, ranging in age from 67 to 17. Missy rode her Arabian horse Prince to the third place finish. She is now in her second year of com- - To host tournament Green River will host a mens fastpitch and slowpitch tournament to close out Utahs 1989 season. The fastpitch tournament, will be held Sept. 15 and 16, and is open to all classes A, B, and D mens registered ASA fastpitch teams. In endurance riding, the rider must take his or her horse through three veterinarian checks to ensure that the horse is sound. Missys brother Ritchie, a veteran endurance rider, was also in the Skyline 60 and in second place when his horse was pulled because of a sore foot. 50-mi- le Missy finished the course in the first local rider to cross the finish six hours. She was line. A year ago, Missy won the 25 mile race. She is the daughter of Richard and Ellen Wood of Orangeville. The 1989 season for the Womens Fastpitch League is coming to an end with the tournament being held Aug. 8, 9 and 10. Elections for the 1990 officers will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, with the public invited to attend.1 The officers for 1989 would like to thank everyone for STANDINGS their support and wish all teams good luck in the tournament.
