Show Thursday, April 6, 1972 Emery Comity BUYING POWER 1 1 1 ' ' liorefa W Sheila Hardee Debra Sitterud Donna Curtis V Cirts Staters Named Girls who will represent the Orangeville Unit $39 of the American Legion Auxiliary at Girl's State at the Southern U -tah State College in Cedar City June 4 to June 10, 1972 are: Debra Sitterud, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neldon Sitterud; Donna Curtis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace R, Curtis; and Sheila Hardee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaVoy Hardee all of Orangeville. The purposes of Girl's State are: To educate our young women in the duties, privileges, rights ELMO NEWS Mr and Mrs Clifford Erickson accompanied their children, Mr and Mrs Douglas Reid of Preston, Idaho, to the Manti Temple, Mr and Mrs Ferril Davis and family of Ogden spent the weekend with their parents, vthe Clifford Ericksons and the Charles F. Jones'. Mr and Mrs Rodney Davis spent the Easter weekend with Mr and Mb Einor Erickson and Mr and JvfoCharles Jones. , Ml BP. and Mrs Harvard Heaton and family enjoyed having her parents the Olsens of Woods Cross spending a few days with them. . Robbie and Clay Lofley each received skinned faces after a bike accident in Hiawatha . They are the sons of Beryl and Charley Lofley. Mr and Mrs Brent Croxford, the former Laura Christensen, and little son are moving to California where he is station ed in the Navy. Mr and Mrs Ted Olsen and family of Roy enjoyed the Easter weekend with her parents, the Nelson Algers. Mrs Enid Fail spent last week in Ogden helping take care of her grendson who has an ear infection. Vila and Bill Jewkes spent the weekend with her parents the Vaughn Fails. Mrs Mary Jones is home from the hospital. Her daughter Louise is caring for her along with LaMon Christensen and Charles F. Jones. Home from their work and school were Blaine Lofley, Chris and Patty Hansen and Scott Oviatt. Mrs Clarisee Brotherson still isn't feeling very good after her operation. Her daughter Delena and husband spent the weekend with her. and responsibilities of Ameri- can citizenship. Girl's State is an effort on the part of the American Legion Auziliary to bring to the girls of Utah a knowledge of the fundamental principles of American government. As future voters and office holders the girls should have an understanding of the prob lems of elective officials , their duties and their functions. The opportunity to learn these fundamentals will be offered by Girls State. In Girls State the girls observe at first hand the problems of government. Each firl has the chance to learn for herself that government is just what she makes it. Cfass Plans leanup social problems class at College of Eastern Utah will sponsor a community clean-u- p day to try to learn some of the practical aspects of solving social problems and at the same time accomplish a worth while objective. Their goal will be to provide leadership in getting many segments of the community to work together in a common project. Elderly and handicapped persons who are unable to clean their yards will be assisted by the students. The fifty students in the class, n, taught by Dr. Orrin M. have divided themselves into committees to seek cooperation from other organizations in the community. One group of eight students met with city councilmen at their regular meeting to get approval of the city officials. Mayor Walter H. Maynard said the city would aid the project.
