The public power program was created by the Congress of the United States for the purpose of electrifying rural America. This has been realized, by the most part, through the Rural Electrification Administration. According to Department of Agriculture of all the farms in the figures 95 U. S. are now enjoying the fruits of electricity. Had the farmers of this country had to depend on private power companies to electrify their farms millions of them would be using lanterns today. The public power program is the victim of one of the most vicious and expensive propaganda campaigns ever conducted by any monopolistic group. For years the private power monopolies have been attacking the public power program. Fortunately for many people living in the rural areas they have not, in spite of their costly campaign, been able to kill the public power program.
