FIRE WARDEN REMINDS LAND USERS OF FIRE RESTRICTIONS (Moab, Utah) Grand County Fire Warden Wes Schultz issued a statement today to remind land users of fire restrictions put in place May 6. 2002 by the Utah State Forester. Schultz said that open fires of any kind are not permitted on private or State lands without a permit from the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands. Campfires are permitted if they are made in constructed fire rings such as the metal types found in campgrounds. Those campfires, though, are permitted only in devel- oped campgrounds such as RV parks or in State Parks. Schultz also said that smoking is permitted only within enclosed vehicles or buildings unless the smoker is in a cleared area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared to mineral soil. The restriction includes the discharge of fireworks, tracer ammunition, or other pyrotechnics. Schultz reiterated that these restrictions do not af- fect incorporated towns and cities.
