"This legislation helps recognize the value of the history of the West and encourages further study and interpretation of it It pays tribute to die cultures that are thousands of years old and have enriched America, and it also celebrates the folks who populated the Old West and laid the foundation for how we live today, said Campbell. In 1995, Campbell worked to commission a study from the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service to assess the historic significance of the Old Spanish Trail and to determine whether it should be included in the National Trails System. The recently published study discussed the trail in great detail and recognized it as an important part of our nations history. In Colorado, the Bureau of Land Management has worked on documenting and interpreting the route with local commu- - iH ! tfllt Mesa County such and the City of Grand Junction. Interested private groups have sprung up to recognize the significance of the trail and work to preserve it for generations to come. Lori Bell, of the Thompson Fire Dept., said her agencys fire crew brought the flames under control almost immediately, but the material in the trailer repeatedly flared up, causing delays in reopening the interstate, Bell said. Because the Thompson Fire Dept has limited equipment. Bell said the Moab Fire Dept provided the equipment and firefighters ultimately needed to extinguish the blaze.
