Photo by Jeff Richards City to study north corridor service by Liaa Church Now staff writer that the Grand Water and Sewer Service Agency (GWSSA) has decided it will not provide water and sewer service to developments along the north corridor, Moab city will study w hether it can provide the services At Tuesdays city council meeting, City Manager Donna Metzler said she has received numerous calls from property owners in the area who have expressed interest in entering into agreements for w a ter service But cost to the property owners w ill likely be the major hurdle. That is the reason GWSSA dropped plans to provide the services. When property owners learned the proposed cost of the impact fees and connection fees, they voted in large numbers to not participate in the proposed GWSSA expansion project. Property owner Rex Tanner urged the city to be creative in finding ways to make the services more affordable to north end property owners. If the costs are still ex tremely high, Tanner said, the city will find few among existing property owners who w ill participate Metzler said the City must also devise a plan for annexation of prop erty in the area before looking into the cost of providing water or sewer services Property ow ners who want the services, either now or later, must be willing to annex into the city Possible increases in tax revenue from those businesses, and the income derived from impact and connection fees provide some incentive for the city to explore expanding water and sewer services to the area, she said, but such an expansion, es staff writer The old Grand County Middle School is structurally sound, says J.R. Richards, a Salt Lake City-base- d structural engineer On Tuesday night, Richards told the Moab City Council that the building needs a new roof, and improvements in drainage near the foundation on the building's south end, but it is otherwise remarkably well preserved. The building is in great shape, Richards 6aid. The masonry is in great shape. The terra cotta is in great shape." Richards said the floors in the building are adequate for general office use, but indicated that additional tests would be required if extraordinary uses such as a library, where tall stacks of books create additional weight, were proposed He 6aid the buildings foundations are sound and show no signs of water damage. He said there are some cracks in the foundation, but those are more like shrinkage cracks" and are not a source of major concern. In a written summary to the council.
