According to film critic Roger Hbert, This is the kind of story that has to be true, because no novelist would dare to dream it up. Genghis Blues tells the story of a blind blues singer, Paul Pena, who listens to shortwave radio late at night when sleep eludes him. One night, he is entranced by the music of Radio Moscow; he hears the throat singing" of a tiny upper Mongolian region called Tuva. In 1993, when a touring group as part of a Russian-Americacultural exchange program performs in San Francisco where Pena lives, he visits the group backstage and sings them their songs. Each wind turbine can generate about $2,000 dollars per year for a landowner who leases herhis land. In addition, wind turbine erection and maintenance means jobs. In the nearly 200 workers putting up the 450 wind turbines. What should Utahns do to prepare for this development? The Department of Natural Re- i in ( Stateline project, there are 259-830- 8 Tune months, several wind develojiers have been snooping around for the best wind sites in Utah. In fact, if all goes as planned one develojnT expects to erect a wind farm w ithin the next year. Its a race. Which w md dev eloper will catch Utahs wind resource first? Could it be a wind developer like the almighty FPL Energy? FPL Energy is developing the Stateline project on the border of Oregon Washington, which will produce an estimated 300 MW electricity. Or could it be a smaller firm like EnXco w ith asset management and ow nership of turbines at sites like Altamont and Tehachapi in California. Just how good is Utahs w ind resource? Utah is ranked 20th with similar wind resources to that of Nevada (21), Oregon 23 ), and Washington (24). Utah will probably never see projects like that of the Stateline project on the border of but can expect to see smaller wind farms across the state in places near Anderson Junction not far from St. George or dose to the existing wind turbine at Camp Williams. Only time will tell where these turbines will stand. One of(non-pollutingcka- involved in the film because it was he who arranged the San Francisco performance due to his interest in Tuva. The film is about the way people communicate with music, about exploration and friendship. The Film Society seeks to honor the Moab Music Festival for its achievements over the past nine years in these very same realms. The Moab community is invited to participate in what organizers say will be a very special evening at Star Hall, Thursday, Aug. 30 at 8 p.m. There will be complimentary refreshments and ticket s to members of the audience with the lucky numbers.
